Senzhu
Hey guys, I just recently purchase my legacy not so long ago (about a month), and it came with some rusty rotors. It seems like they're aftermarket rotors. The car was only at 25,500 miles. Should I replace them or find some kind of solution to clear the rust out? http://i64.tinypic.com/vgkbw2.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/znpkd5.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/2hz4mkl.jpg
Brennelf
Mine has rusty rotors as well, but I am doing a brake job next week lol. It seems to be very common, my friends GT has rusty rotors as well. As far as I've read online there's no way of removing the rust, but to prevent it you should park in areas that are rust free, so stay away from beaches and snow . Cleaning them often helps as well. I suggest replacing the rotors and seeing how it turns out!

I thought it was really odd how rusty it was. I was really going to start investing in a new rotor as well.
Dispatch20
The Subaru OE rotors have corrosion resistant paint on the hub area (where the brakes don't press against). Your rotors do look like an aftermarket replacement set that didn't have that painted protection. I tend to buy Centric Premium rotors, which come with paint on on the hub area already. That protects from rust pretty well.
DonnyJagaru
Isn't it a bit unusual that a car with only 25k miles would have a brake job? I guess the previous owner could've been fleeced by a dealer for new brakes. I agree they are like my aftermarket rotors which do show some rust. My guess is the car has been sitting for a while. If you blast them with rustproofing the dust tends to stick and they look much better, IMO. If you're neurotic you can sand down and spray with high-temp paint. Max Capacity
Rust on the surface of the rotor's is normal. Just drive the car and use the brakes, the rust on the rotor surface goes away. If your talking about the parts that's behind the rim, that is also normal. that's why some of us paint the rotors every year or so. At the same time you should grease the slide pins and lube the spring clips that hold the pads in. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
