Zephrant
Anyone use the MaxBrake electric variable brake controller? It uses an adapter on the master cylinder to measure the brake pressure, then adjust its output to the trailer accordingly. The manuf. says it will work for me, if I have a master brake cylinder and if I can figure out the size of the lines. I need to install a Tee with a pressure transducer to be able to use the controller. I don't like the ones that just measure the brake light, and go full on/off. I burned up the brakes in my Dad's Escalade several years ago when I miss-adjusted his (cheap) controller. I just bought a used tent trailer, #1400 empty weight, and need a controller to pull it (and a hitch). Will it work on my '06, and is it a good choice for a brake controller? AZP Installs
I would never do that, bu that's just me. Why not get the new inertia based controllers? I have one on my Armada and it works real well, and you don't run the risk of a leaking master cylinder line. -mike
Zephrant
Here is the response from them: Yes, MaxBrake will work if you have the one with a brake master cylinder, not the power brake booster without master cylinder. Two parts are unique to each MaxBrake installation... 1. Brass Tee The thread data on the master cylinder is not listed at NapaOnline.com, but it looks like M10x1.0 inverted flare 3/16 inch tubing outer diameter. The brass tee for this is part number 7918, but it is not confirmed that this fits your 2006 Subaru Legacy. To be sure before you order, please confirm the correct tubenut thread size. You can test fit using a bolt from a local hardware store. MaxBrake stocks many different brass tees for different vehicles. 2. Wiring Harness MaxBrake uses the same power connector as Tekonsha Prodigy. I didn't see Subaru Legacy listed on SouthwestWheel.com, so you may have to cut off one end and splice the wires. Zephrant
So here is a picture of what I have. Does anyone know for sure what the thread sizes are? Should I put the tee with the sensor on the port on the end?
AZP Installs
Make sure to fully bleed your brakes whenever you crack open that line. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg AIM: AZP Installs | E-mail: paisan@azpinstalls.com | 725 Fairfield Ave | Kenilworth, NJ 07033 | T-1 Certified Amsoil Dealer "Race Tested, Enthusiast Approved!" Zephrant
Will do. I determined that the threads are 10x1.0mm on that top left port, so I'll put the Tee there. I'll post a write-up when I get it put together.
Zephrant
I verified that the thread size is 10mmx1.0mm on the brake line. Another reply from them: 7918 is the part number for the brass tee with M10x1.0mm threads. When you order, please make a note to send a 7918 brass tee like Toyota or Nissan. The wiring harness power cable will have to be spliced, so any MaxBrake wiring harness will work. Complete all splices and confirm correct polarity before plugging in to MaxBrake. White Negative Ground Return, use a good ground wire, frame ground not recommended. Black +12 Volts, recommend 30 Amp fuse Blue Output to Trailer Brakes Red (not used) brake pedal switch Happy Towing with your Subaru Legacy !! I'll post some pictures when I get it installed.
