All_talk
I’m getting ready to do brakes and wheel bearing on my ’07 Spec B and I’m wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn’t use OEM rotors? Looks like I can get them for about $70-$75 each, is there anything close to this price that would be considered an upgrade? I’m not looking to spend a lot more as I need to keep the total cost of brakes/bearings around $1000. For pads I’m thinking HPS, I have issues with deposits from the stock pads so I want to go with something a bit better. But I don’t want a lot of noise or issues with cold weather performance. Lastly, any reasons to not go with stock wheel bearings? Gary
Mr. Sinister
No reason other than cost. For the price of OEM rotors, there are better options. You can get this: http://www.infamousperformance.net/servlet/the-760/Centric-Premium-Subaru-Legacy/Detail and wheel bearings (I'd go stock for these) for well under $1K. PM msprank, one of the vendors on this forum (for above link). He should be able to get all the parts for you.
AZP Installs
The cost of OEM rotors is insanely high for what you get. Centric Premiums are blank rotors and will hold up to oem life plus some. So there is no reason to pay for that stuff. For wheel bearings there are OEM suppliers that are just as good but you cant go wrong with OEM. So that is a matter of choice. With anything stay away from the cheap Chinese stuff. While it always looks the part, the quality control isnt there. -Jake http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg AIM: AZP Installs | E-mail: sales@azpinstalls.com | 725 Fairfield Ave | Kenilworth, NJ 07033 | 908.248.AZP1 (2971) | T-1 Certified Amsoil Dealer "Race Tested, Enthusiast Approved!" All_talk
Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I have a little room in my budget for an upgrade, I could get the DBA 4000 rotors or a set of SS lines, which would be better use of the money? My gut tells me that the Centric rotor should be fine for sporting street driving and I would get more out of the firmer pedal / better modulation from the SS lines. But I do tend to be fairly hard on brakes, I enjoy G-force any way I can get it, turning, accelerating or braking, so I tend to brake late and hard. Advice? soloz2
I'd get Centric Premium rotors and Stoptech or Hawk HPS pads with SS lines. boymk123
I upgraded my brake to stoptech slotted rotors and pads.. it was huge braking power compares to OEM, no need SS line... they only help your feet feel better, no real function there
