Brought out the strobes for the first time in a long while, 3/4 shot needs more work.

Intake manifold is off. I kept reading about people complaining about "that one bolt", and now I understand.

AVO inlet, GS phenolic spacers, and new TGV/IM gaskets coming on Monday. Going to remove the TGVs tomorrow.

EDIT: For 140k miles I was very pleased to find no shaft play in the turbo.

Girlfriend's Focus had a dead alternator that took out a weak battery, so I spent today getting her car sorted out instead of working on the TGVs. Had a little time to remove the rods and valve plate s, smooth out the divider wall, and tap the holes. Need to get different hardware tomorrow to seal up the holes from the motors/sensors.

TGVs removed, but I left the divider wall in place because I don't have the patience to cut it out with a dremel. Although I did smooth out the lip that the butterfly plate sits on, and sharpened the leading edge of the divider wall.

Got most of it all back together today. GS phenolic spacers are in, TGVs are in, AVO inlet is in, and I bypassed the throttle body heater while I was in there. The only thing stopping me is to get a new T fitting and some vacuum line so I can attach the 3-port EBCS to the inlet. I should have some time to wrap it up on Friday.

All in all, I think putting it all back together was easier than removal. Although I did forget the bracket for the upper coolant reservoir, but at that point I didn't really care.

Ahh the big hose ontop, IIRC its for the PCV? Did you use the one supplied or did you use a different one? I had to go underneath the manifold with it to fit.

I used the supplied hose, but couldn't get it to fit over the PCV fitting, so I used the OEM hose off the PCV fitting then bridged it together with the AVO hose using a section of coolant hose I removed with the TB bypass. Its a bit janky, but it works.

Wrapped up the last few things today. Triple checked all the vacuum lines and bled the coolant, made for some nice smoke.

Updated the tune to ignore the TGV CELs.

Then took it for a spin! Feels (maybe) a little quicker, but is definitely a bit smoother without the leaky TGV gaskets. There is a local dyno day in about 5 weeks, I'll see if the numbers changed much.

And then back into the storage unit it went. I'm dying to switch back to summer mode, but its going to be below freezing again for the next week or so...

Last week I got an update on my phone that a few packages were delivered, so I wrapped up work and split early so I could go play.

My new KS Tech 73mm CAI showed up! Along with new plugs, Innovate LC-2, and a new hotside TMIC gasket.

Old intake... (Perrin afta-MAF hose and K&N filter)

New intake!

At the suggestion of Franz I picked up this SBC coolant housing gasket. Its nice and thick with a rubber seal, and should help contain the boost better than the stock little rubber o-ring. Fits perfectly!

Went on a 90 minute drive to work on the MAF scaling yesterday, when I got back I accidentally clicked on "clear data" and not "update MAF", so that was a waste of time. Then I thought I would put my summer wheels on, but when I got to the last wheel I snapped the shank off one of the lug nuts, only the seat of the nut is left on there. Tried to fit up my WRX lip, but didn't realize it was supposed to be significantly wider than the bumper so I scrapped that idea.

Today is about 40 degrees colder than yesterday, so I don't think I'll be doing too much today...

Still need to find time to install my front lip and Innovate LC-2. I picked up a spare shortblock from Franz that I'll be rebuilding, and I got a set of 04 STi Brembos today that are getting stripped and powder coated silver with blue Brembo logos. Progress is slow but steady.

Grill "winglets" are done. Had my roommate clear coat them yesterday, couldn't be happier with how they turned out.

I was able to sand blast the brembos after work yesterday to get them ready for powder coating. I just need to wait for my new brembo logos to get here and coordinate a time to use my neighbor's powder gun and oven.

I should be getting a relay and fuse in the mail today so I can finish up my install on the LC-2 wideband.
