Just installed my primitive racing skid plate

Recommended Posts

The install is very easy however; I didn't like that the skid plate didn't cover everything so I installed it over the stock plastic one. My biggest issue was that it did not meet up to the bumper cover and hangs below it in the front. Any thoughts?

What all didnt it cover (aside from the side pieces). How close does the oil filter come from sticking out the hole?

I've been contemplating getting one since I broke my stock one. Ive even thought of making my own out of UHMW-PE or going all out with laminated Kevlar for the hell of it.

It doesn't meet up to the bumper cover which was my main concern. The oil filter is about about 1in from the cover. Thinking I may have liked the rallitek design better.

Odd that yours doesn't tuck under the bumper. The one on my OB fits right up.

Hmm.. Thats not a big concern for me. But, the fact that some of use run longer filters (such as myself) did concern me. dont want the filter sticking out!

For the price, I dont think you can beat primitive though.

I trimmed the factory piece down to just the two side wings and used the skid plate to hold them up, fit was fine although it was a little tricky to install by myself.

Not in love with the way the mounting bolts hang down with that installation hardware. makes the bolts the first thing to hit on when you scrape. eventually ended up tearing out both my factory mounting threads. Remedied by using carriage bolts (for maximum clearance) mounted all the way through the lower support brace.

I use Tokyo Roki Black Mazda RX8 filters. Subaru released some that are similar and are the Black ones that everybody loves... Here is the subaru part # 15208AA160

These are a bit longer than stock as well. Hell its probably the same filter rebranded for subaru.

Long filter installed.

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/24/5aje3egu.jpgI do have a sandwich plate in there for oil pressure and temp. It's close and tight to get in there and tighten up the filter. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/24/ejatyqeg.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/24/nyby7y3u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/24/ypy7ypeb.jpg
