Questions about the 1996 EJ25D...

Recommended Posts

I understand there are physical differences between the 1996 25D & the 97-99 25D but there is something that bugs me about them.

First off, the 96 is supposed to only use 91-93 octane yet when people get them from junkyards, they use regular gas in them & they operate & last as long as any other EJ (as long as head gaskets didn't blow). Why is that?

Secondly, why is it that the 96 has such an amazing TQ placement over the 97-99s? I drove a 1996 GT today & it felt like it wanted to go NOW compared to a 99 GT I drove afterwards.

If I didn't know any better, I would say that the 96 definitely felt better, now that I can say so from experience. I'm going to do research on why the power of a 25D feels so abrupt but if anyone who knows the answers to my questions, feel free to answer.
