David E
Just turned over 175k on my '99 Outback wagon. Need some advice on what wear pieces in the front end probably need repair or replacement. There is more slop in the steering and handling as compared to my '06 BAJA with 45k on it. I've got fair mechanical skills and tools so would like to do as much of the work as practicle myself. This will be my son's first car in about 6-months so want to get it in good safe shape for him. Anyone have a list or advice on what gives the most bang for the buck, what I can reasonably do myself and what's better left to a pro?
01rs25
There's so much stuff up front that could wear out or deteriorate over time, it would be hard to say exactly what needs to be replaced. However, a few minutes under the car would yield you a good idea. You may want to inspect the following: Ball joints Tie rods (both Inner and Outter) Axles Struts Brake lines etc... All should be realitively easy to do for the home mechanic. Just take your time and remember to take a gander at the vacation pics. Slammed more than your girlfriend.
