AC Belt Tensioner bolt

Recommended Posts

I would say you are screwed and you need to buy the assy... Looks like its some special shyt if you observe the back of the tensioner idler, but I could be wrong.

It's just a long bolt. You should be able to find one at a hardware store like True Value if they have them in your town. Probably the best option is to find a junk yard and get the whole tensioner it will probably be $10.

nope, not just a long bolt. it has reverse threads. i doubt you will find it any where in town except the dealer.

EDIT: the ONLY reason it is reverse thread is so clockwise will tighten the belt and counter clockwise will loosen it. the first time i dealt with one of these i thought too much. i thought it was a regular thread and thought ...''turn it this way to move the pulley down and tighten''. after several turns i realized it was going the wrong way. i thought about it again, turned it again, and still i was going the wrong way. apparently when working on these cars the best advice is ''don't think''. leave it to the japanese to out think an american, or maybe its just me.

of course that does not mean you couldn't use a long regular thread bolt in it's place. you just need to use nuts instead of the threads on the tensioner.

but way easier to get a used one from a member here or a salvage yard. or get the part number from opposedforces.com/parts and buy from a dealer.

i'm talking about the long bolt in the pic below going left to right.

Junkyard if you have one close. I'm lucky that way. Subies for days out here. Dealer is a good place also. lcmb25 nice to see another Utahn with a second gen on the forum. :)

Junk yards in SLC are great. Always been able to find what I need at the Pick and Pull!

ya, i cant find a legacy in the junkyards around here to save my life. but luckily, the imprezas are all over the place and have the same motor in them. ive replaced a bunch of stuff from those 2.2s. unless youre looking for window motors, the doors are reversed in those. same motor, opposite side of the car. weird.
