arg36
I've had a new cabin filter waiting to go in my 06 GT for some time now, but due to the lack of the quick access door I've been postponing it a bit. Today, my friend changed the filter on his 08. He was complaining of a bad smell in the car since he bought it a few months ago. Installation was a breeze, but wow, it must be the worst one I've ever seen. The pics speak for themselves... http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/a5c48f40d06b5f8c86f1e31531283b57.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/7f9c22f8eee4a73549c5be92bae3ac59.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160723/02cc34256ea63b51aa0ab3aae6a93386.jpg Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

covertrussian
And cabin air filters for common passenger cars started with Saab 900 in the 80's. Subaru has been a utilitarian car manufacturer well past into 2000's sadly. It's no wonder my neighbor laughed and said never when I told him to get a newer outback, he's used to the super basic no thrills 90's Subaru's. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
FJuan
most 05 legacy's never came with a cabin filter installed. I remember the first time I went to go change my filter and all I found was the tray. What the hell Subaru?! My wife's balls are delicious.
FJuan
The filter only takes about 10 mins to install, the glove box comes out fairly easy. My wife's balls are delicious.

1-3-2-4
Where is the filter in the '05? Behind the glove box?
Merc6
Where is the filter in the '05? Behind the glove box? Yes but after you take half the interior apart. There is some kind of revision that was introduced later on. Center console, right half of the radio trim, the glove box and glove box part that has the owner's manual pocket all comes out. Depending on when made and prior owner, there may not even be a filter in the filter tray when you pull it. Took me 3 years to find a filter that wasn't $80 and the confidence I wasn't going to break a bunch of yellow clips. 2005 Satin White Pearl Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Unlimited 5EAT (Project Car) 2019 Agate Black Ford Explorer XLT 4WD (DD)
FJuan
Nah, the filter is easy to replace. Just disconnect the glove box door cables and swing it down. You shold have enough room to pull out the filter tray. My wife's balls are delicious.

rougeben83
my 05 did not. You can get cabin filters from rockauto, ebay, amazon - they all shouldn't cost more than $10 a piece.
zangado1
Had mine changed out at the dealer when it went in for the airbag recall. Since the 05's need the dash removed to replace the airbag I told them to replace the cabin filter while they were already there. $40 for the filter.
