Condor
as the title says im looking for some new tires. looking for either 215 or 225/45/17. i would like summer specific. 75% of my driving is to and from work or cruising around. 25% is spirited. ideally looking for a good driving tire that will handle some fun as well. now ive never "shopped" for tires before so quite frankly i dont really know what im looking for. so any help or recommendations would be great. last summer i had 215's, would i even notice a difference going to a 225? price wise if i can stay around the $100 mark ill be pretty happy. thanks a lot
krzyss
I think you will be hard pressed to find decent summer tires within your budget, especially if 100 includes S&H or tax and mounting. Krzys PS I had Hankook Evo V12, decent tire but quite fast wearing but nothing outrageous. Current summer setup for Legacy GT is GY F1 Asymmetric 2, decent tire (225/45R17). CrowNaza86
Agreed, might be tough. I had Ventus V12s as well. They lasted to about 28K-ish of mostly highway driving, but wore unevenly; the car's alignment was spot on. They were cheap though so YMMV. Stick to Tire Rack and research what they have. Then shop around your local area, maybe they can give you a price break.
krzyss
Size wise: I would find the tire you like and then buy cheaper 215 or 225 (/45R17). Krzys
Condor
Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity what would be the cost of good tire? $200 range?
aac0036
I don't think price and quality necessarily go hand in hand. If you use Tire Rack and search by vehicle it automatically selects the size for you, then you can narrow your search by brand, summer/winter/all-season, etc. On that site your best friends will be the 2 tabs Surveys and Reviews under whichever tires you're interested in. I like to read at least 3-4 pages of reviews and take into account what kind of car and driving style the reviewer is using. http://i.imgur.com/taHY5Xx.jpg http://i.imgur.com/lzIuGYp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3rLzzCQ.jpg Once you pick the tire you want, you can order them through Tire Rack or check if any other places near you are competitive on price. Even check Craigslist for the heck of it.
Jack Giovo
Discount Tire may have this tire and free freight, also try CARiD and Tires by Web - I have received great service from Discount Tire
krzyss
Nothing should be more expensive than Michelin Pilot Super Sport in the size you pick. If you can afford Michelins, buy them. There are other cheaper, comparable (maybe not treadwear wise) tires available. You should not be disappointed with performance of Conti DW, GY F1 Assymetric 2, Bridgestone S04. Other vendors are more hit and miss, premium brands usually do not disappoint. Krzys
