jtslmn720
Just bought my 09 Legacy SE and the center console arm rest lid doesn't latch. This wasnt enough to get my not t buy the car but its annoying. Nothing appears to be broken, but it just seems like it is missing a part maybe. Would this fall under the bumper to bumper warranty? jtslmn720
Well that's not good ha. I guess I will have to mess with it a little and see if I can figure out why it won't latch. Is anyone able to post a photo of the latching mechanism for me? The hole the latch goes into in the actual console, not the lid part. Just to make sure Im not missing something
apexi
Ive got a couple of pictures of the standard armrest lid in the link below if that's the one you have http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/fs-ct-off-black-armrest-lid-2009-legacy-166362.html?t=166362 Or if you have the armrest that extends upwards, the picture for that is included on this thread. Anytime I've had latching issues with my extending armrest, it's because of the stupid screws on the armrest coming out. From the factory the screws are black, but on my picture below it's the 4 silver screws I'm referring to (I lost 1 of the black screws and could only find silver replacements at the hardware store, and i replaced all 4). Those use to come out on me all the time and mess up the way my armrest would latch down, so I eventually just threw some blue loctite on them and they've been fine since
jtslmn720
Excellent, thanks for you help. I get the feeling that it is loose because when I went to lunch I was playing with it and it just looks like its shifted forward some and that why it wont latch. Ill have to check those screws and see if thats it.
apexi
I just realized you wanted a picture of the hole and not the armrest lid. Here's a picture of that too, not much to it.
jtslmn720
I tried to adjust the screws, Im actually missing 2, with no luck. I think that it is shifted forward somehow because there is a gap in the back and the latch goes into the hole but to far forward. Would this be due to those screws at the bottom or something else? the extension is opened in all these photos except the first photo http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/JUrban/IMG_0060.jpg gap in the back http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/JUrban/IMG_0065.jpg latch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/JUrban/armrest.jpg detail of the latch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/JUrban/IMG_0066.jpg and closed, just to compare if its forward more than normal. apexi
I think there is some kind of problem with the way the extension was installed. I check out the link below, and verify that the armrest is properly installed. My guess is that there is some issue with the rear hinge, near where the rear cup holders fold into. Here are some pictures of my armrest as well http://home.comcast.net/~apexigsx/armrestlid.pdf
jtslmn720
See, this is why I joined ha. That information is exactly what I needed. I was trying to get in there last night but was worried that back cover was screwed in and didnt want to keep pulling and break it 4 days after I bought it. Ill try that when I get back from work and see where it gets me. Thanks
jtslmn720
well I got it apart and figured out that the hinge was just really in need of being lubricated. So I did that and not it shuts properly, doesnt really latch fully but its much better than it was before. Now however the piece above the rear cup holders wont stay in now. Mystery to me because nothing broke off it when I took it out.
WetLegacy
I got my 09 with the exact same problems. rear cup holders fall open if I get on it a little, and the armrest has never latched. Annoying as hell and quite literally the only two things i hate about my car.

Dntk
I had this problem in my 09 LGT. It's been awhile since I fixed it so here is a vague description. Tools needed; screwdriver paper towel electrical tape (optional) Ok open up the top of the arm rest and unscrew the black piece that would be the roof of the storage compartment. now roll up some paper towel (I taped it after I rolled it) and stuff it behind the latch and re-attach. This will push the locking piece down more getting it a better latch once you close it. Good luck!
