How are you streaming audio via Bluetooth?????

Recommended Posts

I want to be able to stream audio from my phone via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, my new to me 2011 only offers Bluetooth phone calls. Has anyone purchased an after market device that offers Bluetooth audio connectivity using the OEM stereo while still allowing the factory Bluetooth phone connection?? if so, which one and how much??

My 2012 Premium can stream audio via blue tooth as well, but I know that was a new radio for 2012.

What model is your 2011 (and does it have the Harmon Kardon or navigation system?). Some 2010/11 could have blue tooth connect accessory.

I have a 2010 with no bluetooth option at all, only a AUX jack. This is by far the best stereo purchase I have ever done.

Since I need power anyway, I went with a proclip mount and some type of power + audio that plugs in to the aux port and solders to the lighter.

Specifically, for my application with an iphone 5S (lightening):

The hk system with media hub has an ipod interface that doesn't work with the iPhone? I bought a Samsung car charger with an extra USB charge port on the plug to power my adapter and still charge my phone.

I have a 2010 legacy (no-nav HK audio) and I put a 2013 outback headunit, streaming music from there, FYI everything works in the 2013 headunit including the backup camera,USB, xm radio, Bluetooth streaming, and 3.5" LCD display.

Could you elaborate on which system you have and which you put in? Do you have the media hub in your 2010?

If I am understanding your post you put a 2013 head unit non navigation/ non hk in your 2010 non nav/nonhk. And it streams audio?

I was actually wondering this same thing.

I have an 11' GT with Navi/HK sound, and it when I cycle through my aux, it SAYS I can stream bluetooth, but it never lets me. I've been meaning to get that checked out. My bluetooth works fine for calls, but no audio streaming.

Anyone else with my same setup have some insight?

If you go to your bt settings on your phone you will see the connection is only a phone connection not an audio connection. The bt streaming should show two connections or an audio connection not a phone connection. Here is a screen shot of what I mean notice the phone next to car media and the headphone next to blackberry. Maybe this is a set up issue but I can't find any way to fix it hence the aux bt adapter.

OK, quick update. After FLlegacy's post, I went down and did some playing. Let me start by saying...I should have RTFM haha. I've gone the last two months without delving into this. For reference, I have the Navi with HK.

In my bluetooth settings, when I click the settings icon next to the CAR M_MEDIA connection (as seen in FLlegacy's post), I get this:

Now, I already have my PHONE connected (for bluetooth audio calls), and I assumed that it would automatically connect to the bluetooth streaming audio as well. NOT so. If you try and click the use for media audio box, it'll think for a second, then do nothing.

You have to go into a different settings menu, and actually REGISTER the bluetooth audio device. That settings menu looks like this:

Now that you've REGISTERED the device as a media device, you can stream audio through it.

Viola!

Now, in your phone's bluetooth settings, you should see both the audio/call control boxes marked.

I'm probably the last person to figure this out, but it was really easy to miss especially if all of your other bluetooth vehicles register both automatically!

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers

Glad you got it figured out. The non nav hk system only has the phone audio no other box to check sadly.

Bummer!!! Well, a big thank you to YOU for making me go back and do some more searching.

What was the model number for the 2013 outback radio? Also was in a plug and play? I would like to do the same with my 2010

After doing a bunch more research, looks like it is not a direct plug and play. It will require adapter harnesses, as the connectors on the back of the newer units are not the same.

Yes its a 2013 outback pe658U1, it deff was not plug and play, as the connectors are different for sure, after getting an adapter harness from svxdc, and soldering a couple wires I was back in business. Camera I got from Subaru dealership and USB connector I also got from dealership. Everything works and I'm super happy with this radio.

Where did you place the microphone for Bluetooth phone calls?

Has anyone figured out how to upload the phone book via Bluetooth? Every time I try it disconects me from bluetooth.

yes i did this last week, it worked great.

you have to pull up the phone book from the nav system and select the option to import contacts. this should put the system in a receiving state.

from here you will have to send the contacts from your phone via Bluetooth. on my Note 3 its as simple as pulling up the contacts page, pressing menu, selecting "share namecards via", select bluetooth, then select the car audio system as it is stated in your BT connections list.

this is kind of a drawn out process but once you do it you will see its pretty self explanatory, the ease of using the phone book while driving is so much better than pulling my phone out. you can also setup voice tags for upto 20 contacts so you can make calls with your voice from the steering wheel.

with that bieng said to each their own, but here in Austin the Police have made it illegal to have a cellphone in your hand while driving.

our HK Nav systems are sorta out dated but they are very robust and I feel they will last the test of time compared to some of the other infotainment systems out there which seem more flashy than anything.

P.S. i think your phone needs to be connected VIA Bluetooth for call support, not just media playback for the upload to work properly.

OHH and if yall havent tried it, DVD playback on this system has fantastic Video quality. My GF and I were super suprised at this on our last road trip. I halfway expected it to be laggy and buggy but it worked great once I figured out the on screen controls.
