Rushin
So something went really wrong and a little modding turned into a pretty serious upgrades. So far the list is -AMR CXR 500 -Fast Motorsports Front mount -GS boost control solenoid -Ebay AEM replica intake -Perrin Inlet -FIVE0 1000cc injectors - Walbro Here is my stage two dyno sheet http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/TarasTarlov.jpg And here is with the above mods on a very conservative street tune. at 17psi and a bit rich http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/7f1e9a1a.jpg Couple pics of the car. before front mount tho. http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/Legacy%20Pics/DSC_0377_HDR.jpg http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/Legacy%20Pics/DSC_0340_HDR.jpg http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/Legacy%20Pics/DSC_0314_HDR.jpg here it is with stealthy front mount http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/86024973.jpg http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/1ea2384b.jpg stock vs AMR http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/3d0abd9e.jpg http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/ab200/ttarlov/87f8a1af.jpg will do a nice review of every part a little later. I have quite a bit of stuff to say about amr turbo and the front mount
Chameleon
nice progress but i don't get a good feeling about that amr review to come.
Rushin
One thing that was a huge fail with AMR was the drain pipe. It had way to big of an angle and it was hitting the engin block. So i had to pull the drain pipe and replace it with the stock one from stock turbo and had to drill out the holes to make it fit AMR. And now its leaking:-( AMRs customer service sucks. They wont respond to my questions about replacement drain pipe and gasket. But whats worse is that the top mount intercooler plain wont fit with it. I got IPR top mount and that would absolutely not fit at all. The angle that holes are on the compressor housing are way off. So the intercooler wont line up with the throttle body cupler. So i had to shell out way more money for a front mount that i really did not want to get. Amr told me its normal and i had to drill out the holes on the top mount. If i did that there would be no material left to hold the intercooler to the turbo.
IDRVSLO
The IPR top mounts can be hit and miss. I put one on a friends all stock car around a month ago that fought me for two hours. [
Rushin
It for sure was not the ipr intercooler itself. I was barely able to fit stock top mount on with the amr. I had to soak the throttle body cupler in hot water for 20mim for it to become soft enough to bend a little to fit at an angle and it was almost sliding off the intercooler:-/
Max Capacity
Can you rotate the compressor housing to help it line the TMIC up ? My IPR was a mother to install. I drove the car to the shop I ordered the tmic from and had them put the thing on. It's been off since and now goes right back on like the stock one. I will never take the hose of the TB. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Rushin
I tired to clock the turbo but it won't move. Poor design. I know that ipr is a bitch to fit but this was not going to fit no matter what. I would have to drill out the holes big time. This is amr with stock ic, had to use some serious brute force to make it fit and not strip holes on the turbo:-/
Rushin
My review of AMR CXR500 turbo The good: 1.It sure looks nice. The red coating looks great and probably helps with spool a little bit. 2.The exhaust housing and compressor housing is ported and polished which probably helps with spool too. 3.The turbo comes with all the water lines already attached and they line up pretty good with rubber hoses. 4. Turbo comes with a new banjo bolt with a bigger hole and come with new copper washers. 5.I was able to make 338 hp on dynojet at same psi my stock turbo was at. The not so good: 1. The drain line had a weird tilt to it. When I tried mounting the turbo on the up pipe it just did not want to fit. I did not know that the reason was the tilted pipe. So I kept forcing the turbo onto the up pipe and ended up stripping one off the studs. When I got the turbo off I noticed that the oem rubber piece that connects the turbo drain pipe to the metal pipe on the block was ripped. That was the only way I was able to tell what was causing the turbo not to fit. I ended up transplanting drain pipe from stock turbo to the AMR, which did not fit without drilling out the mounting holes on the drain pipe. I reused the gasket from AMR drain pipe and that's where there is a small leak now. 2. The intercooler mounting holes on the compressor housing are not at the same angle as the stock turbo. Stock intercooler fits with lots of force and the cupler on the throttle body is barely on the intercooler. AMRs solution was to tell me to drill out the holes on my ipr intercooler. I was not going to do that because chances were It would not fit anyway and i would have ruined $500 intercooler. 3. AMRs customer service sucks. Not personal at all, they would not even reveal the name of the person who was emailing me, just signed Customer Service. Conclusion: I wanted a turbo that fits with top mount intercooler and is in stock location and will get me close to 350 on pump. But I ended up having to get a front mount to make it fit with the AMR turbo. Cost me $250 more than I wanted. Fitment issue really made this not as fun installing as I hoped. But at the end of the day it's a nice turbo that makes good power. But if I new I had to get a front mount I would have bought sti style turbo. Rushin
A little update on amr cxr500. Its blown:-/. First I thought it was leaking from the drain pipe. But as it turns out it's leaking, most likely, from the exhaust seal. Oil is dripping right where the center section meets the exhaust housing. It was leaking from day one. Contacted amr, btw they don't have a phone number or do they say the name of the person that emails you, I was told to send the turbo to them for an "evaluation". Turbo has less than 500 miles on it btw.
