Hybrid22L
Yes. I did it again. I messed up my tranny. It wasn't too bad, but my flex plate completly broke off from it's tab. The IPT torque converter is whining as well. Plus there was some other brackets under the tranny that got mangled. I wasn't racing it, just crusing. I think it may be from the VB mod when I first got it. It was slamming into gears and putting a lot of stress on the flex plate. After 10,000 miles or so, it gave out. This is the second flex plate i have gone through. I will post pics later. The car is at Yimi sport and are waiting for parts from subaru and for the VB to come back. I will keep you guys updated on what happens. I think I'm the only one that has broken a flex plate on this forum. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z310/hybridsti/0609091136.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z310/hybridsti/0609091137.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z310/hybridsti/0609091138.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z310/hybridsti/0609091138a.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z310/hybridsti/0609091149.jpg

atc5
interesting...looks like someone should make a stronger, perhaps a billet plate. looks flimsy...
AKLGT
^^ was gonna say the same thing. OEM part trying to hold that kinda power? no wonder you're going thru them so quickly! Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!

Bolksey85
I would have thought someone would have made a stronger one by now. Built trans, hardcore valve body, beefy converter. But yet no stronger flexplate.
AKLGT
and I'm sure gobs of low end torque on that twinscroll doesn't help! Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!
vduber
This is going to all the rage in 5eat community now, i was actually contemplating doing a 6spd swap but the cost isn't worth it. I have come to the realization that this will be my dd and i will be saving for a while to get my toy (m3). Ahh these fkkin trannys suck!!

Hybrid22L, what turbo are you running (and with or w/o meth), and what power are you making? Thank you. Hybrid22L
I'm running a vf37 twinscroll with an 18g wheel. ported as well. I'm laying down 311 whp right now and 281 torque.

Do you have a dyno graph available? Would love to see the spool. I'll be running just about the same setup, only difference is mine has closer to a 20G wheel. I hope my trans can make it until 2010 sometime.

ClimberDHexMods
That was enough to kill that built tranny? The power spike on that setup comes on before the tranny even hits stall speed, especially since IPT raises the stall on the TC. So it sounds very realistic since they didn't upgrade this broken piece. Is it possible to put spot welds on the new plate so as to give it more strength? I have no idea if that'll even fit, but I figure it's worth a shot or it will just fail again. i have seen spot welds on TC blades, why I ask. In your quest for a stronger trans, did you ever research other companies? I guess you wouldn't now because yours should be under warranty. jim1969
I think IPT only gives a 1 year warranty on their work.
Hybrid22L
here is the thread of the build and dyno chart. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49805 Awesome setup. Hybrid22L
it was due to the vb slamming the shifts. normally this doesn't happen, but all the adjustment out a lot of stress on the flexplate. Jersey Glock actually went to IPT and he didn't have to go through this problem. his adjustments were done on the spot. I had to keep shifting it back to them to get it done right. the new flexplate should hold up fine now
Hybrid22L
I did research other companies. IPT is 1 year. the only other company was Level 10 and I have not heard anything good about them. JALEGACY
Its interesting. I have the same setup as yours except mine is still top mount and is a 2l. I have the stock transmission and at times I get some slipping, but otherwise good. Power levels are almost the same. http://www.socojforum.org/forum/index.php/topic,358.msg3396.html#new
VTGT
Good luck fixing this. Hopefully IPT has figured out the adjustment on the VB.
Hybrid22L
I should have an update today. Ty is working at IPT again. I didn;t know this. He will be calling me with an update on the torque converter. Last thing I'm waiting on.
dx32v
For an almost 5k built trans and this happens with only 310awhp? I might skip my VB upgrade to go to Stage 2 and just save to trade for a manual or something without such a pathetic transmission. IPT is already charging way too much for for a built transmission and this is the best they can do?
ClimberDHexMods
Hybrid22L's setup is not "normal" for the N.American market. His twinscroll beats the piss out of the tranny where it is least equipped to handle it in the rpm range.
