Konis with Pinks?

Yeti 08

Recommended Posts

I've done some research on what springs/struts to use when I upgrade my 08 LGT suspension and I've narrowed it down to either epic or pink springs with either Koni or Bilstein HD struts. There have been many great reviews on here by people who have gone with Konis w/ Epics, or Bilsteins w/Pinks.

Does anybody have any thoughts or experience on using Pinks with Konis? or Epics with Bilsteins?

Thanks!

I road raced my legacy wagon on Konis and Pinks. They are probably the best setup you can get short of going to a race coil over setup.

I wonder how the Konis compare to the Tokicos.

My guess is not that much different, but honestly I'm just guessing.

Can't decide if I'll be selling the tokicos when I put coils on or hanging onto them just in case...

This looks pretty good!!! How much did the front end drop?? I like the idea of the wagon springs in the rear. No more saggy butt. Think I will do that too =)

Does anyone know if it's the same parts for 2.5i as the LGT??

Yes same parts

Dropped the front ~3/4" and the rear ~1/2"

That's what I was thinking. Did you decide on a coil setup?

Yup. I picked up the rebuilt set of RCE Tarmac 1s that Drew888 was selling. If I don't like them I don't think I'll like ANY coilovers and I'll swap to the tokicos / stock springs. I think the coils should be nice tho...especially considering I'm planning to swap my rear UCAs, add a KTA124, and add 245/45r18s to the mix with a performance alignment all at the same time. Tires and the alignment should be a huge difference on their own.

Nice. Those are LGT-spec bodies right? Are you planning the Spec. B UCAs? That setup should be just about perfect. I almost tried to run the 245/45 and now that I see how the 245/40 fit, I think I could've done it. I'm interested to see your take on it when it's finished.

I wonder how the Konis compare to the Tokicos.

The Konis give a more European feel, the Tokicos are a bit more of a sharp dampening compared to the Konis.

How is the ride on this setup with Konis and Pinks? I currently have Bilstein HDs with pinks on my car and while it is well spring for the track, it is jarring around town. I am looking for a setup that gives the car a nice, slightly lowered stance and good handling.

You will be able to soften it up slightly more with Konis, but in all honesty you should probably look to Epic springs for a better ride in any East Coast Urban City...

I have had a little time with this Koni + Pink set up to evaluate the ride. I am very happy with the ride, handling, and ride height overall. The ride around town at slower speeds is quite a bit firmer/harsher than stock, and i'm assuming very simmilar to the Bilstein + Pink ride. At speed the ride is exactly the way I wanted it. I just finished a ~1000 mile road trip with the car and it was awesome. The floaty feeling of stock suspension is gone and the car actually feels as though it is less work to drive when cruising at 80-85mph. Definitely less scary when doing any cornering or maneuvers at speed.

I have the Konis set to the middle of their range and haven't felt the need to play with the settings yet. I would imagine the most comfortable setup for around town driving would be a stock spring with Konis or Bilsteins. I personally would expect a harsher in town ride from any lowering spring on the market, so this doesn't bother me too much. Maybe I could soften it up a bit with the adjustments on the Konis. I will have to try this out when I get some spare time.
