NickH
Let me start this thread by saying that I tried to read every 5th gen thread about fog lights and I'm either really slow at installing them or other members are stretching the truth when they say "it only takes 20 minutes." All together, the total install took me 2.5 hours. The directions that came with the fog lights are a good reference, but I'm hoping this post helps somebody else out. 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Instead of using a plastic trim tool to remove the blank covers (like the directions say), remove the 5 plastic clips shown below. This will allow your hand to easily fit behind the bumper. Three of the clips can be popped off with a flat head screw driver and the other two with a phillips screw driver. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/legacyclips.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_13-38-49_911.jpg 3. Remove the blank plastic covers. The first one took 25 minutes and the other took about 5. Refer to your new plastic covers for clip release locations. 4. Once the blank covers have been removed, you should see the orange connectors. Remove the blue tape holding them in place. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_13-39-23_377.jpg 5. Slide the nut downwards into the following location with the protruding end facing the front of the vehicle. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_14-36-03_152.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_14-36-20_236.jpg 6. Connect the fog light. Slide the two outer tabs into the bumper slots, secure the fog light with the nut/bolt, and then connect the orange harness. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_14-26-43_608.jpg 7. The directions say to install the new plastic trim covers...I didn't. I saved this until the very end. I didn't want to find out that something wasn't quite right and have to pop the covers off again. Have a beer at this point. 8. Gain access to the back of the mirror switch (you'll be replacing it) by popping off a couple trim pieces. Steps 8 & 9 in the directions cover everything. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_15-05-14_179.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_15-05-45_367.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_15-19-30_173.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_15-23-39_144.jpg 9. Now it's time to remove the old switch. This honestly took me 1.5 of the 2.5 hours and I recommend 2-3 beers at this point. The directions mention a flat head screw driver...I used a butter knife. Regardless, you need to push from the front (mirror button) while you try to release the 4 clips from the back of the switch. The directions also look like they want you to pry from the front of the switch...don't do that...the release clips are on the back of the switch. After a lot of swearing, I was able to free up the switch. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_16-34-10_978.jpg 10. Install the new switch and re-install the trim pieces. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_16-40-16_291.jpg 11. Insert the new relay. The directions (step 12) cover the location. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_16-44-19_914.jpg 12. Reconnect the negative battery cable and test your newly installed lights. 13. Re-install the fuse box cover, install the new plastic cover pieces (step 6 of the directions), and re-install the 5 plastic clips (per side) that we originally removed to gain access behind the bumper. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f327/nlheikki/Fog%20Lights/2012-06-17_17-20-28_984.jpg Nick

mark5032
Sorry the install took so long, but I feel a lot better now that I'm not the only one who needed a lot more than "20 minutes" to get this done. It took me somewhere between 1.5-2 hours, and I was messing with the switch install for half of that. The screw that needed to come out of the dash was a little stripped, plus it took at least a half hour to get all of the little clips to release from that mirror switch. If you decide to put a larger rear sway bar on, that takes a lot longer than 20 minutes too, especially if the end link bolts are rusted.
DugsSin
I'm in the hours club too:spin: Just installed them yesterday too. The picture of the installed light is what I needed. The light must be slid completely through the opening then installed from the motor side to the opening. NOT by just shoveing it into the opening from the front. I also pulled the dash down from both sides of the steering coluum but further than your picture shows. The switch is removed by pushing it through the dash while gently prying locking tabs on top and bottom of switch from the backside of dash. I used a jewelers size screwdriver. Push on the the mirrors adjusting knob not the little panel you may think should move too. The directions leave alot to be desired but point you in the direction you need to go. For those who also manage to break one of those plastic tabs Permatex makes a two part plastic weld that works very well. coppertone
Wow I am not going to say how long it took me, but let's just say I don't drink and deduct that time from it. I guess since I am so used to taking cars apart, till I know there are short cuts to everything. One thing I can't emphasis enough, go OEM when it comes to the fog lights. Your car will thank you. 2010 2.5GT limited is for sale.

My screw was off-angle, resulting in about 90 minutes of trying different things to get it to straighten before it came out. P.O.S.

When I put the yellow lens overlays on my fogs, it took me all of 10 seconds to remove the covers with the trim tool without doing any damage. UltimatE
I bought the OEM kit, and in the middle of installing it. They included two bolts with shoulders that don't fit into the fog light, so the bolts are too short. Anyone have this issue? FLlegacy
Also for the relay, any of those other blue relays will work, I found autozone carries this relay in store. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G965U using TapatalkThis is correct. When I installed my fog lights the relay was still in the mail so I pulled one of those blue ones to test it. So when the new one got delivered I just popped it into place. Sent from my Mi 9T Pro using Tapatalk
jmhinkle
Reviving an old thread that should have been an easy install. I installed everything except the factory switch as it was last to arrive. The only difference being I used aftermarket fog lights that supposedly switch from white to yellow by a simpe toggle of the switch. Install went easy with the switch being the hardest part to get out. Finding a thin enough tool to depress the levers was the issue, but once I got something in there it popped right out. Plugged it in and starting testing. Good news is the light comes on in the dash now, but I still have no fog/driving lights. Everything is conected that I know of. Plugs on the lights only fit one way, relay under the hood, fog light fuses were already in place, new mirror switch in the dash with the fog light button. Dash light is coming on now. There wasn't another harness out in the body to connect right?
