Anyone have any luck with DIY windshield repair?

I got a few tiny rock chips/pits in my windshield I wanted to fix before they got bigger. I tried one of those DIY repair kits on one the biggest chip I had. 1-2 millimeters. The resin cured and all, but it doesn't really seem like it did anything. I poked at it with an exacto knife and it's still a pit and not flush with the rest of the glass like I thought it would be. I didn't really care about it disappearing visually, because it wasn't that big in the first place and I can't see it in the car. (It's behind the rear view mirror.) I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with any of those kits.

Most insurance companies will pay a pro to come out and attempt the fix. I have done this several times with good results. It's cheaper for the insurance company to pay for a repair than it is to replace the windshield (even with your deductible).
