chemicalbreeze
I just purchased these used 17" rims for $175 CND. They looked a bit rough when I checked them out, but I am planning on using them for winter rims. After I took them to the coin-op for a good cleaning, I noticed this dent. Anyone have experience in the tire mounting industry, will this need to be fixed? A little pissed that the seller did not mention, but buyer beware, I guess. If the tires can be mounted and everything works fine, I may sand and paint them for a decently inexpensive summer set. Due to the holiday (Family Day) I cannot find anywhere that is open to see what they say, so I turn to you. What do you think? hassa
That's not too bad considering what you paid for them but you may have a hard time getting them balanced well enough where you won't notice it (noise/wobble) when driving at highway speeds. You can likely get it straightened but not sure how much in your area.
chemicalbreeze
I took the rims to a shop and he told me that I shouldn't mount the bent rim. It turns out that another rim has a significant crack in it too. That means two out of the four rims are not able to be used in the current condition. I am going to see if they can be repaired and I may still have gotten a decent deal, otherwise, I may throw them through the sellers window... chemicalbreeze
So I took the rims to a local rims repair shop and they straightened the two that were dented and welded and straightened the third. The owner of the shop seemed like a good guy and I hope they hold up. I started to sand them, getting ready to paint. We shall see how they turn out. Anyone have any tips on painting? I drove with them about 100 kms so far and they feel good, well balanced. Thanks for looking.
O.C.D.
Looking good! I was in the same boat with a welded rim and was leery. But it turned out ok and I have not had an issue. Painted mine as well. Good times.
