c-lo
I noticed yesterday my rear passenger side wheel bearing is going bad AGAIN. I just replaced it roughly two years ago and now it's starting to "whir" again. WTF??? why just this side and not the others? car just turned 130k. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
JoeFromPA
Did you install it yourself? FWIW, I believe alot of wheel bearings will go bad a second time within a few years due to improperly torqueing the new wheel bearing to the knuckle. The next thing would be if that tire/wheel is tremendously out of balance....well, an out of balance wheel/tire will thrash a wheel bearing over time. vet
c-lo, just wondering if there's a dealer or shop in the area that you recommend? I'm pretty sure I've got a bad rear wheel bearing and my experience with the Subaru dealer in Frederick has not been good.
c-lo
yes. I use Foreign Auto Excellence off Tilco road:1439 Tilco Drive Frederick, MD 21704-6632 (301) 694-3112 He's a subie specialist. Family run, Alan and his wife. What I really like is if the car has to be left there overnight or all day they will loan you one of their cars for the day. He's very honest and down to earth. I've never left there feeling screwed. I don't think you'll be disappointed. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
__raj
May I ask does a failing wheel bearing sound like a truck or poorly worn tire noise on the car? Can it be intermittent? I recently put new tires on my car Conti Extreme DWS and the same noise but more pronounced is still there.

GrouchieGrumbles
May I ask does a failing wheel bearing sound like a truck or poorly worn tire noise on the car? Can it be intermittent? I recently put new tires on my car Conti Extreme DWS and the same noise but more pronounced is still there. I had a RR wheel bearing replaced last week on my 05 gt wagon.. Important to note that subaru extended the warranty to 2014 or 100k miles on the 05's... In my case it sounded like what you described.. sounded like worn tire noise, but I switched tires and still had the noise... Some people thought I had differential problems, was happy it was only the bearing, and even happier when it was still under warranty!
