Where to buy tranny fluid for the 4eat?

Recommended Posts

Like the title states, need to find an online source for the Subaru transmission fluid or something that can equally replace it... I don't have a Subaru dealership within an hour of me so I'm stuck looking online. I'm not using some garbage over the counter cause I'm already regretting putting some generic fluid in it. Thanks in advance

Is fred beans parts store the only site to sell the extra-s fluid? Also, is this stuff safe for the automatic tranny? Their website says no.

I looked up the Motul fluid and found websites like this:http://www.fcpimport.com/products/automatic-transmission-fluid-1-liter-dexron-iii-motul-000602?gclid=CN23w5-i3bYCFe1aMgod-kIAZw

Is this the other tranny fluid you guys recommand?

You could use Extra-S in your front and rear differential, but not in your transmission. The image below has the fluid specs for a 2009 4eat. It looks like they recommend Subaru ATF HP, or IDEMITSU ATF HP as an alternate for the transmission.

*It does not look like the Motul fluid in the link will work. It does look like the fluids below should work.

Valvoline Multi-Vehicle ATF

Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

Those are really the only other options I could find that explicitly state that they will work in place of subaru atf hp.

I assume you probably got that part number from the fred beans website Legacy2012. It is odd how they show a "*" instead of a "1" or a "0", maybe because they offer both SOA868V9240 and SOA868V9241 fluids, but I'm not sure. They have both the older stuff pictured in the white bottle, and the newer HP stuff in the silver bottle.

Like N.sane said, SOA868V9241 is the stuff you want, the ATF HP.

It looks like SOA868V9240 is Subaru's older Dexron III stuff.

When I go to the fred beans site, and click "check price" for the ATF, it does display the part number you want "SOA868V9241".

I'm also assuming that you still have the 2009 legacy with the 4eat, as show in the link below. If you do have a newer legacy, that might change things.

I have an 09. Thanks for correcting the part number. I'll see what I can do about finding the cheapest place to buy it from. A full transmission flush is 12 quarts correct?

Actually according to the picture posted to this thread, its between 9-10 quarts..

Cheapest place I found it including shipping was at FCP Import..

Looks like I'll order from there. Anyone have any bad experenices with them?
