hal9e3
I was looking for a discontinued Goodyear tire and had an interesting conversation with a dealer (not one of the big chains). He told me that after Goodyear discontinues a tire (and presumably after closeout sales like the ones Tire Rack offers) they buy back the remaining tires and DESTROY them! Bizarre. He said sometimes dealers hoard discontinued tires but if the Goodyear rep finds them they are contractually entitled to repurchase them at full invoice. Anybody else ever heard this? krzyss
How old are the tires? They may want to avoid ancient ones and sell newer. Krzys
Leggy-5th.GEN
Tires have expiry dates and are only good for approximately 4 years from the date of manufacture (DOM). http://miros-road-safety.blogspot.ca/2009/01/how-to-check-your-car-tyre-expiry.html
hal9e3
He made it sound like they buy and destroy any discontinued tires regardless of age. WRT to expiry date I bought 2007 vintage Goodyear F1 Asym's from Tire Rack last summer so they were already 4 years old. I have complete confidence in them so I think 4 years shelf life may, at least in this case, be a little conservative.
