subysouth
I figured I would start a new thread to get the key info consolidated in the shortest thread possible. Hopefully the JDM suspension options will turn out to be a good upgrade for the USDM cars. If so we're going to want to know as much about what we're getting as we can. Info we have so far. nicd
This are coils off the regular BP/BL coils you can see throu the plastic that the large coils which go on the fron shocks are pink and lavander: This would mean you (SS) have the softer soils with the Bilstein shocks: From here :http://nifty.amikai.com/amiweb/browser.jsp?url=http%3A%2F%2Flist1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp%2Fjp%2F26318-category.html&langpair=2%2C1&toolbar=no&lang=JA&c_id=nifty
subysouth
Ive been out-of-town, just checked back in :) . That link is taking me to a general page - maybe the auction is over? Did that auction say specifically they are off the GT? Or are you thinking thats what the GT setup is? The "standard" springs with Bilstein struts? It seems unlikley they wouldnt upgrade the springs when going from a regular BP to a GT. On the BGs the only thing that seperates the stock wagons from the GTs are the springs, the struts are the same. More mystery..... So far we know now there are at least three(maybe 4) potential donor JDM BPs with Bilsteins. 3.0R, 3.0R ADA, GT, and GT-B. At this point I really want to know specifically which exact model they came off of before I sell them to somebody. When I bought them, I thought the GT-B was the only BP wagon that had the Bilsteins, so I can see how through translation I could have ended up with a set off a different version. I have part number inquiries out to 3 different places that have helped in the past. I will post back as soon as I hear something. ss
nicd
Those coils were off a regular Leagcy GT BP. I will try and find the auction again. Too late it is gone there are however 2 other kits for sale!

Now, I wonder how the spring rates compare on the JDM GT vs the JDM GT-B and USDM GT. ss

SC GT
It appears that the BL5 (sedan) GT (non-Spec B) has the same front springs as the BP5 (wagon) GT, but different rear springs. eavr4
Latest information from Mr kazuhide Sato, Bilstein Japan "Subaru set up two specification only with a different setting for Bilstein OEM. One is for 17 inch tyre and the other is for 18 inch tyre. In Japan setting for 17 inch tyre seems to be more accepted to end useres than that for 18 inch tyre because it is more comfort (less sporty). This is for your information. However it depends on your taste. Best regards, ********************************* K. Sato Thyssenkrupp Bilstein Suspension Gmbh Japan Office Tel 03-5472-5715 Fax 03-5472-5021" According to him, the 1st Generation i.e. "Front 20310AG140 20310AG150 Rear 20365AG120 " is for 18" Spec B versions (tuned for 18" wheels) 2nd Generation i.e. "Front 20310AG180 20310AG190 Rear 20365AG120 " is designed to Legacy GT equipped with 17" wheels Regards EA
subysouth
SC WRX on NASIOC(is that you SC GT?) asked me to post detail pics of the tops of the strut/shock shafts to see if it might be possible to use USDM topmounts with the JDM Bilstein suspensions even though NicD'd pics do show some significant physical differences. They designate brake setups this way, unfortunately they would also put the same brakes under different sized wheels on different models. It would be a lot simpler just to designated the PN or model, but Subaru does its own thing. ss
SC GT
ss - Thanks for helping out with our research. And yes, I am SC WRX on nasioc. Now, is there anyone that can take comparable pictures with the stock USDM struts? Xenonk? Opie? Anyone with Subaru parts dept. connections? SC GT
FYI, I picked up some BL5 (Sedan) Spec B struts, and they are the same as nicd's (which means that the sedans and wagons use the same struts, but different springs). subysouth
Bump this back up for some info. I still have my set of Bilsteins and may be getting a car to actually use these on finally. Did the topmount issues ever get sorted out? My set is sans f&r topmounts. Are the USDM topmounts viable with the Bilsteins or should I wait for Leagcy STi and grab a set then? ss
Beanboy
Anybody know the numbers difference in rates between the US and JDM LGT suspension (springs/struts)? I want as close to stock ride height as possible for winter/rallycross, but would like to firm up the suspension a bit. -B -B http://www.standardshift.com
