Spammer from the forum

I just received an email from chad@legacygt.com about a private message from MichealTracy. Here's what is says:

 

Dear HRTROB,

 

You have received a new private message at Subaru Legacy Forums from MichealTracy, entitled "Take measures immediately!".

 

This is the message that was sent:

Dear, carguyco;HRTROB;visitorQ;coppertone;brum!

 

A virus alert was noticed on your computer.

We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: http://antispam.servebbs.org/online-scanner/carguyco;HRTROB;visitorQ;coppertone;brum

If you do not pass this test* we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your ISP with attached log file (your IP address, etc.).

Yes, the messages are already deleted and user banned. It is a scam.

 

I just got a similar style of message, I thought you said this guy has been banned :mad:

Yes, that guy was banned. Evidently people can create new accounts here and can spam again. :lol:

 

There is no way in vbulletin to prevent this, their settings for groups do not have control over how often a new member can send PMs. There is only a global setting. So either I make every legit member suffer or sometimes every few weeks a spammer might send out a handful messages before someone reports them.
