Legacy 3.0R Tuning Parts

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im new to this forum im looking to buy the 2009 Legacy 3.0R, I have browsed the web over and over looking for performance parts for the 3.0R (all years) with no luck. Im mainly looking for a cat-back exhaust kit but have only come across kits for the 2.5GT, If anyone in here has some info on tuning parts for the 3.0R please post them here as i feel tuning companys have comletely left out the 3.0R and it is a car with potental for tuning. The worst thing is im in the United Arab Emirates and they dont make the 2.5GT with a gulf spec.

I look forward to your replys

if you want to modify your legacy, start with a 2.5 turbo.

If you really want a H6, K&N has a drop in filter which I am already using in my 3.0R Outback and I gives a little boost if I am not mistaken.

Exhaust parts can be shared between Turbo & NA models, I have STi Genomes for sedan installed on my Outback 3.0R model. The difference is the length of the tips, Wagon are longer by about 2 inches.

Look for some 3.0R Spec B parts to start with. Not much performance improvement, but it's a start.

There are people that has mounted a turbo on the 3.0.

The most serious setup of the Subaru H6 engine is done by Eggenfellner Aircraft.

Just be aware that you may need to modify the oil supply if you add a turbo to the H6. And that the fuel requirement may be that you have to go for aviation gasoline unless you change pistons to ones with a lower compression ratio. I don't know if the 2.0l turbo pistons can be used in the 3.0 engine.

Another way to go may be a supercharger like the VW G-Lader or maybe do a hack with the fan from a leaf blower? :p

they stopped shipping the GT version in Mexico since 2006, so I bought a 3.0R sedan almost a year ago, I installed today some custom magnaflows, and later on today I gonna install a K&N filter (in actually improves performace for a low price) and its easy and fast instalation... I have also had some difficulties to tune it up, since all tunning parts are for imprezas or LegacyGT... but maybe "Rallitek" will be a bit of help since they seem to have parts for legacys non turbo... just choose your model

http://www.rallitek.com/legacy.html it actually announced in the vendors section

Skipper you can try this web site

www.importmonster.com.au.

Signing up is free and you can get anything you want for your 3R (springs, exhaust, intake, exterior, etc). They ship from Japan via EMS and if it can take 3 days for the parts I ordered from them to reach me, you should get them quicker.

If you are going to change your exhaust I would suggest that you also follow what some of the other members suggested and change your intake as well. Drop in a high flow filter and intake arm like the ones below.

They are cheap and you will see a performance increase immediately.

I already bought a K&N filter;)... but that intake arm, can it be custom made?

Yes it can be made, you would just have to take the measurements of the stock plastic arm and go to a machine shop preferably one that can do mandrel bending and they should be able to make one for you.

Can the 3.0R be opensource tuned?? If so, this is your best bet for getting more power out of your car with basic bolt on parts.

Other than that, if you have some fabbing skills you can put a super charger and intercooler on your car and you will be pushing at least 350 AWHP.

The guy who will be tuning mine has a website and forum that you could check out. (Xtremeracingtuning.com)

Mine wont be open sourced tuned, since my JDM ECU allows for quite a bit of leeway for changing settings. But he does open source tuning remotely as well.

Here is his log of my car when he took it for a spin. The hp for the 1st graph is whp not bhp.

You sound just like the guy who is tuning my car. Always tells me how a nice fmic and a small turbo would do wonders for my car. I always tell him that I prefer NA, if I had wanted to would have bought a 2.0GT spec B instead.

Nothing beats the smooth linear acceleration of the H6.

Besides my motto is "NA is best".

We can't get a 3.0R with a manual transmission in the states, so it was never on my radar. H6's are sweet, but not sweet enough to buy a slushbox. At least the newer 3.6R's take regular fuel instead of premium...

I think the supercharger is the way to go. I will be working on a second one once the customer is ready. My first customer ran into personal issues financial and sold the kit.

Cassius do not like me to drive his car, so I don't know how it feels when I drop a generic tune on it. I fully custom tune, but drop a generic tune after tuning so many of them and wanting to offer a rom where anyone can purchase with little or no tuning.

He is scared as hell when I drive :)

Hi all,

I want to tune my '04 Legacy 3.0R 5EAT using a Tactrix cable and the software ECUFlash and RomRaider. I've emailed XRT but their prices seem a little ridiculous. I'm wondering if anyone has every tried tuning their car themselves? I'm willing to learn and tweak and generally get to know the software and how the cars performance is altered with each of the settings so I can tweak it to exactly how I want it. Has anyone ever tried doing this themselves? Is it difficult?

Cheers,

Jay
