Broken tophat stud

Recommended Posts

Had some clunking up front and I figured I may need to re-torque those 6 little nuts in the strut tower. I snapped one off. From what I have read on here you can just punch out the old stud/bolt and put in a replacement M10 bolt, however, I tried and it just would not budge. I tried drilling it out too but for some reason my metal bit would not penetrate.

Any suggestions? If I have to replace the tophat I may ask just get camber plates and be done with it.

cut the stud flush with a dremel, then place a socket on the backside and a cut off piece of bolt or rod on top of the flush cut stud. once this is done, use a clamp to push the broken stud out (into the open socket).

alternatively, if you want to drill the stud, use a good quality cobalt bit and go slow. you will need to go to a industrial tool store to get one (not Can Tire, their house brand bits are far too soft). it also helps to punch the stud first so the bit doesn't wander as much
