Fitting Angel Eyes to Gen 4 - any updates - proceedure, parts etc?

Recommended Posts

Hi - having seen TSi+WRXs thread here... http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/rpm-ccfl-dde-walk-through-19784.html?p=312355

And some beautiful examples of the Halos fitted to the Gen 4 Legacys - I am convinced it's something I want maybe NEED to do to my car :rolleyes:

I have only recently bought my 2004 2.0 GT Spec B JDM and finding your forum with loads of amazing mods has just been fantastic :D Thanks to everyone who has put in so much hard work and documented it for others to follow more quickly and cheaply!

With the Angel Eye mod I have started looking for parts... One big problem is that I cannot find a thread where someone has stated the size of the rings they use. Having measured from outside the headlight lens case I would guess that absolute minimum of 80mm OD (ID 62mm ??) to avoid obscuring any of the dip beam light transmission. Guessing at about 100 mm OD to be optimum?

Also tempted by the RGB setup - but can only find them in 80mm dia - but also am aware that the CCFL will be a better light source? - but more fragile?

Any updates that anyone has for recent customisation would be appreciated - prices seem to have gone down since 2004? - or are these cheap parts that will fail quickly?

Also how is the durability of this mod over the years?

Also a good source available to UK buyers if you know of any would be a great help.

Thanks

Mick

I installed red halos a while back, I'm going to have to change them over to white. I hate the way they look now.

Don't remember the size, sadly. I installed a shielded halo around the projector, and an open in my high beam housing. White small zipties hold them in place.

Not colour changing. They are CCFL. They were supposed to be white when I bought them. Got them from a local guy, turns out they were red. I rarely use them.

Going to change over to LED in the future, but I don't want to have to pull my bumper again. Easy job I know, but not when you have this on the front......

Tell me about it had to buy tiny ones not even more than 6 led's if i recall for the fogs (h3) led because anything larger doesn't fit in the housing. Basically makes it glow without projecting any light what so ever.

I so badly want halo. How much of a bitch was it to do?

 - Yeah they look fantastic don't they? I found there was a huge amount of inertia to getting started doing these - what with the car out of action until they're done - getting on the wifes nerves by putting pieces of car in HER oven , risk of breaking stuff and incurring huge expense

It is a big and scary job the first time TBH - but I'm very pleased that I have done it.

Took it to a show yesterday - looked cool  - and with these being LED I could leave them on for hours without risk of draining the battery :spin:

Those halos look to be pretty good size. Where did you source them?

Job looks great, btw. :)

So you're saying that you're comfortable with doing it now? As in maybe doing it for someone else if they sent a set of lights to you...? :spin::wub:

If i had a place to work i would love to start taking lights in to work on them. Im very happy with mine.

They are amber and i think 80mm? Maybe your right. 100mm seems right. They rest just on the outside of the 3 little post that stick out from the housing.

I also installed a relay so they blink opposite of the stock blinker. Like they alternate from halo to bulb. Look tight as hell yo..

Figure I should update the changes to the headlights. Got rid of the old worn out stock setup for a bi-xenon setup and new halos.

Old pics but not much has changed.

I have stock amber bulbs. I removed the orange reflector and cut the plastic piece off the ribbed piece. Left the ribbed piece installed. The second pic I posted has the projectors and the halos on. Any pictures specifically you want? I'll grab whatever you need.

All photos taken with the iPhone.

This picture is just the halos lit up. They are super bright. No projector light I swear.

Who did you have do the headlights? Did you take them to a shop? And how does the wiring work? I have Blue Lumen LED Halos and I'm trying to figure out how to install them, thanks.

Here is my thread including build... http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php/topic/123080-lighting-mod-now-with-assembly-pics/

Have fun :spin:
