After "Broken In" : :D

I took a 500 mile round trip over the weekend to DC. It was a nice trip and I took it easy most of the way there and back by not going too fast (hard to do) and taking breaks every hour to hour and a half. I also varied the speed, and tried to not be too hard on the engine. On the last few miles back I did open it up and "compared" speed with a fire red Audi S4 and a brand new Scion Tc. I kept up pretty good with the S4, and the tC I left behind after rolling next to each other for a minute at around 65-70. I must say that from 80 to 100 MPH the acceleration is great! That boost is really addicting! So I completed the 1000 miles at the end of the trip, and I am a happy camper. The engine does seem to have gotten a little louder, and I think I have experienced some more studdering in second gear.

So far I am very happy with the car, and it was very comfortable over the long trip. The seats are great and did not make me tired at all. I averaged 24MPG over the 500 miles, and had to fill up twice. I got gas cheaper in the DC area than up here.

Yes I am pretty sure that after a few more thousands miles it will only get better and faster. My next step is to put a couple of hundred miles more and then take it to redline a few times. Like to see how loud it is and how it rides. I also need to check my cruise control to make sure that it is running correctly. BTW I already got a small scratch on the rear driver's side door that I need to find out how to fix, and got some armor all stains (the car waash type) behind the wheel wells that I need to clean up. I think I need the tire well wheel flaps, or whatever you call those to protect the car more.

Laz, the mudguards really help a lot. Before mudguards: crap thrown almost to the level of the rear windows. After: hardly any. It's hard to understand why those are not standard.

As for break-in, if your experience is like mine your mileage will gradually increase for at least the first 10k miles. A friend of mine has a WRX and his experience was similar.

it'd be something if the speedometer was not at 0mph... :D

You mean like this? :D:dm:

Notice one mile exact difference between pics, now that is timing!

I've had mine for only 900 miles - 100 miles when delivered. I have lost how many times I've hit redline. Everywhere I have read that basically babying an engine may hurt it during the breakin process due the the rings not seating properly. I must have hit redline about 5 or 6 times today alone.

This Legacy GT wagon is a funny thing... some comments from a co-worker today:

"what kind of car is that"

"seems like a nice family car"

Well, I don't mind the anonymity. Attention is overrated!
