Cheap Ipod / AUX in for McIntosh...

After lots of searching, I had just about given up, but there _IS_ a relatively cheap Aux / Ipod in solution for McIntosh units with the Clarion CE-NET port on the back...

One of these...

It's made by these guys ( http://www.axxessinterface.com/ ) but I can't see this specific model on their site so I linked to a random retailer...

$55 USD roughly and it essentially emulates a CD changer and adds an iPod input Aux input.

With my iPod touch Gen 2 it won't charge with the iPod cable, and I have to control the iPod from the iPod (no functionality on the McIntosh buttons - except volume obviously), but it's a good clean line in signal. my iPod does pop up a message when I plug it in saying that it can't charge from this cable and I need to dismiss that message to continue - but I can deal with that.

The device also adds an Aux In, so I can also use a compatible AV iPod cable with a USB port so I can still get a line in, and plug the USB into a plug I have in the car, giving me complete functionality including no messages to dismiss, and it charges while I drive.

I just had one installed today and it's great. Output level is a shade lower than the radio or CD, but it's a genuine Line In which makes me a very happy camper!

It doesn't display any track info on the Mcintosh, and you can't use the McIntosh controls to go forward or back tracks like you can with the 1251... but I prefer to control from the iPod anyway - so it's all a win for me.

I know it doesn't help the standard stereo guys, but I hadn't seen this mentioned at all here so I thought I'd add it.

Cheers - Neil G
