relative4
Doing my timing belt next month, and in the past I've held the crank pulley with a chain wrench, which sucks. This time I want to use a better method. I'm considering the old belt-around-the-alternator trick, the Subaru OEM wrench, and the Company 23 tool. What are people's takes on these? Can the alternator be damaged with that approach? Does anyone find one of the tools to be better than the other?

biggreen96
Did my Tbelt today. Used the starter bump method to loosen the bolt. Prybar/big screwdriver in the flywheel teeth from underneath to get it back on. One arm holding the prybar, one torqueing the crank pulley bolt. KRM
If I'm in the spot where the starter isn't available to bump over the motor for the quick way of removing the pully. Using two short ratchet extentions placed in two of the 4 holes on it and a breaker bar for leverage works well.
