house number 1: much newer house with very little updating needed. Taxes are higher, closer to my work but further from my wifes work. it is on a thru street.

House number 2:

older house in a very established neighberhood. Great curb appeal and awesome yard with lots of privacy. Needs kitchen and bathroom upgrades. on a culd-de-sac. Further from my work and baby sitter, closer to my wifes work. higher price but lower taxes and HOA fees.

My wife and I have narrowed are search down to these two houses. We keep going back and forth in our decision. We plan on making a offer sometime next week,

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Adam

and RochNY 10k+ a year on taxes along...thats a lot bro....i pay less than half here in White Plains

Slight thread hijack:

What's the assessed value of the place? Seems like anything in this area with an assessed value of 300k or more is near or above 10k a year for local and state taxes. Are we really getting bent over that much on taxes??

I also like #2, but I'm curious -what are the taxes on each? My fiance and I are currently looking and around here, the taxes would be about 10,000-12,000+ per year on either of those.

Taxez for house number 1 is: $3200

Taxes for house number 2 is: $2600

10-12k is alot or taxes.

If you do not mind me asking, what are the asking prices on both houses. Square footage? Acreage? That would help my decision.

What I do know is that in the Northern Va area they would be 500,000+

I need to move to denver :)

#2. Highlands Ranch will be a far better place to live than anywhere in Aurora, even if it's out in the suburbs. PM me if you want a recommendation on a good general contractor for kitchen/bath (he's currently redoing my place right now).

#2...location is key for the kiddies. You won't have to worry about people flying down the street trying to bypass traffic and while it may need some updating, with the rough economy you should be able to find some killer deals on parts and labor and in the end you'll have what you want.

By the way...those taxes are wicked low. I think a place like that by me would be well over 10k, hell I pay more than that for a condo.
