Procedure to set variable valve timing?

Recommended Posts

Have a 2010 Impreza 2.5L Sohc, vehicle was smacked in the front end and kept getting misfire codes in cylinders #2 and 4. Someone had previously fixed some of the valves but I think a few were out of the recommended clearance. Anyone know if there is a procedure to set the valve timing?

you do realize most of the members on here own Legacy's correct?

have you tried the NASIOC site? you might get your answer sooner.

If the car's been involved in a front-end collision, depending on severity, it's possible (likely) that the cams stopped when the radiator crushed backwards against the covers and stopped the cams. That means there's cams and piston/cylinder damage.

Recent purchase? Dealer sale? Take it back to whomever/wherever you bought it and tell them to fix it.

This is the same vehicle in your "stalls after hard stop" thread? You said it's a 2010 Legacy 2.5i, CVT in that thread?

Same procedure same engine.

Misfire codes and un-verified valve work dont sound good  First pull your spark plug wires for Cyls 2 and 4 if they are coated in oil that could be your problem. While you are at it pull the plug and make sure it isnt fouled. If both check out to be good pull the misfire codes (if you have a CEL) from the ECU. Depending on the code you will have a better idea of the problem. If you have valve clearance problems your engine woudl be toast a while ago but they may have been lashed incorrectly.

If you do need to have them lashed it isnt a terribly hard job but getting the driver side valve off is a PITA and youll need finger gauges and a mean to turn the engine to check between adjustment.
