Baddog Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 I just had a 93 Ej22t rebuilt using OEM bearings and all were in spec. I went to show a buddy of mine the car and got home and heard a loud knocking noise. It DOES NOT increase with revs however. It actually goes away with revs. 150 miles on the motor and not pushed past 3500rpm's yet. I know there are 2-3 bad HLA's on the side the noise is coming from. monkeyposeur Posted January 5, 2013 Share Posted January 5, 2013 I can definitely hear the bad HLAs. It sounds just like mine did. But I can also hear that knocking. Hopefully its just the HLAs. At least they are pretty easy to bleed or replace. I've found that bleeding doesn't help the fully or partially collapsed ones though. Baddog Posted January 10, 2013 Author Share Posted January 10, 2013 So gents. Here is what I found today. Keep in mind I installed a BRAND new fuel filter when this motor was put in. Baddog Posted January 10, 2013 Author Share Posted January 10, 2013 Replace the tank and fuel pump. All rubber fuel lines. And flush the hard fuel lines out. And rebuild the motor....AGAIN. Would explain why the valves on the old motor were stuck open. This would cause it. Pretty sure it's sugar. It sizzles when heated up. Its sticky.
