New 2009 Kia Forte looks so much better than Impreza

Have a look at these pics on the 2009 Kia Forte:

This is an entry-level car, replacing the Spectra. It must look at least 10 times better than the Impreza and, as one comment says, better than the Acura TSX.

Of course, I'm not talking about mechanicals, but about looks.

So if Kia can do it, why are there so many ugly/boring cars on the road?

Personally I think that Kia is ugly like the rest of their line. But almost every car company is making ugly cars right now, everyone is so focused on making new 'futuristic' looking cars instead of just making good looking cars. Then again most people don't care as long as it gets good mileage...

So - what is a good looking car MY 2008, 2009?

I am not sure what you are talking about, style wise...

This...

Or this...

Similarities are obvious.

But the kia is much sharper, more clearly and well defined, and is a more confident design. The air dam is worlds better. The swoop under the side mirrors adds a bit of drama to a small economical car, without being completely detracting, like the Hyundai Genesis Coupe's odd side window profile, or Corolla blandness.

skin deep, the Kia looks good for an economy car. under the skin, the subaru wins. But at that point, the Legacy is not much different than the impreza, and why people would pick any impreza 4-door over a legacy sedan with a similar engine is beyond me.

From the various comments, It seems De gustibus et coloribus non disputandum remains as true as ever.

IwannaSportSedan, you seem to think pretty much as I do.

Regarding the Impreza, I was looking to downsize a bit and was hoping that the new Impreza would be a great-looking car, as is the Legacy. But no. Now, if I was to get a 2009 Impreza, I would have to buy it despite the fact that I don't like both the exterior and interior design (and materials quality for the interior). Twice in my life I have bought cars on purely rational grounds, despite finding them unattractive ('85 VW Jetta and '93 Nissan Altima), and each time I could't wait to get rid of these cars.

looks like a civic.

+1

Just like Honda quickly updated the last generation accord with an updated front and rear after the Hyundai Sonata stole its rear end almost verbatim.

And then out of nowhere honda goes.. bump that noise

Oullim Spirra S...

Interesting to find out about a car I've not seen yet.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/exotic/112_0804_2008_spirra_s_first_look/

It looks good, textbook-wise, but it is a bit soulless. It looks like the front of a Tesla roadster, with a characterless derivation of the F430 in the back. The lines are all straight, and it is painted a nice, technical silver.

But this car doen't strike at someone's emotion, and hold fast with technology. It looks like it was designed to a formula that other companies have laid out, not to someone's passion for building sports cars.

It looks like a supercharged something. With a flat engine cover, who can tell. but it is probably transverse, rather than longitudinal.

It lacks grace. I can accept that on an economy car, like the Kia Forte... but this is claimed to be Korea's first "supercar"... and soulless supercars fall flat.

If the Hyundai Genesis Coupe looked like this for 25-30k... even if it were front engined... I would be impressed. IF they are going to charge Porsche money, or more, then not so much.
