Need to see the hooked up wagons!!!!!!! Volume-2

Damn the level of knowledge is freakin impressive.

I'm not looking to go lower. Don't want stiff springs unless I'm really tracking the car which I ain't. Unless you count driving like an idiot most of the time.

Just want the biggest widest wheels I can get with the least amount of work and cost. Lazy, I know. ;)

18x8s ?

I'm not saying it won't fit, just you'll be doing some work to make it fit. I had coilovers, a full WL replacement front / rear, custom camber, fenders flattened & rolled; still no go.

Lowering the causes the rear arm to move the wheel forward in the wheel opening which causes the tire to contact the front of the wheel opening.

With really stiff springs (basically no suspension travel), you could do it.

I spent a lot of time & money with the help of a shop that fabs racecars. We did one trial run on the 275 around the parking lot, rubbed everywhere. I tried with 245. It worked but rubbed under load. I never wanted to cut the body, so the project died. I sold the wheels & tires. Eventually, I bought a set of 17x8 Enkei PF01 & BFG R1 235/40/17. The car made 1.5G on that combo and pushed me out of the driver's seat.

Pictures:

1. on the ground, 245's mounted on 18x9.5. 225's in the back on 18x8.

2. on the lift with 275's mounted on 18x9.5.

Options to make it work:

1. drill new holes to relocate the axle - Dead Mr. is the person to contact on this. His thread here is worth reading. He used to be GyroDisc and has epic threads there.

2. move the upper c/o mounting point (the tire will hit the c/o first)

3. Use spacers to push the wheel out, then add fender flares. See this thread for help with flares/running wider wheels.

4. Use narrow tires. 215's on 18x9 will work. Looks like shit, but it works.

Edit: Granted mine is an outback YMMV with a legacy.

I've got the same wheel specs on my LGT wagon with 245/35 tires. Fully rolled flat fenders in the front and a pretty aggressive roll in the rear to get them to fit.

I should have held off and purchased a wagon instead of the spec.B

18x8s ?

I have 18x8 +35 that I'm going to mock up with a 245/40 tire to see how much work is needed before actually placing an order for new tires. More than likely I'll end up going smaller. I'll report back in the spring

The best fit for looks without having to mod fenders in my experience was 18x8.5 +48 with a 235/40/18. Perfect fit, looked great, no rubbing whatsoever, no rolling/pulling required.

I run a 17x9 +45 with a 235/40/17 now and its my second favorite setup I've ever had, but I do rub on the inside and the tire is undersized a bit, very tight fit all around.

I'm running a modest drop strut/spring combo, maybe -1"f/-0.75" r (?).

That's my next setup (I hope). I'm on a 225 on a 18x8 now, and I'd like the meatier sidewall of a 17", and a wider tire. Thinking of trying a 245 though.

Oh, and ideally I want wide enough that I DO rub. I want the tires to rub something, somewhere, a little bit. Lock to lock in the front, over the big bumps, when ridiculously loaded up. I don't mind a little rub.

I have 5mm spacers in the rear right now, for an effective 18x8 +35, and they rub here and there. And that makes me happy. And the rub marks show me where a little fender work will clear that right up.

18x9.5 with probably 235/40zr18 on coils:

18x8.5 maybe 225/35zr18 on coils

18x8.5 with 245/45zr18 tires on LGT suspension:

The 18x8.5 definitely required the least amount of work. At this point I had coilovers and slightly rolled fenders and didn't have any real issues:

you open up the fenders at all with the flares? Otherwise they're just "stick-on" on the OBS right?

I did eventually, but not initially.

The flares don't add any space really, so what I did was have the fenders cut and pulled under the flares, and used only the top mounting holes. Hopefully that makes sense.

18x9.5 +35 with 275/30/18 - guaranteed rub. If you used really stiff c/o at stock height, it might be driveable. The fronts would need the fender liners removed. The rears would stick out too much, so you'll need mud flaps.

OMG DEFINITELY! haha

I'm running 18x9.5 +38 and I couldn't imagine fitting anything more than 235/40 in there, and I'm v aggressively rolled / pulled.

My front fender liners def take a beating on long trips -- probably just remove them when the weather gets nicer

OB fender overriders are actually drilled and taped.

I hooked up this car seat! Baby Derplette will ride in style!

Get a car seat protector. I have two of these:

Summer Infant Elite DuoMat for Car Seat, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00368CLXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_zeCBybVCH8SP1

I like the triple pocket at the bottom. I can store an extra water for them and me, and reach it from the driver's seat.

Helps to distribute the pressure points on the seat and catches the sand, dirt and crumbs.

Yeah they are. What you gotta do is take the flares off, then cut an inch of the fender off, pull some and then mount the flare to just the top set of holes.

There's this great post from Thomistopheles

Those things are cool. I had my car seat in the Outback for like the entire time I owned the car, so maybe like two years. Seat never recovered :(
