I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 25, 2011 I Donated Share Posted August 25, 2011 Has anyone ever shifted into 3rd and had their whole shift lever come up into the cab? I ask because its happened to me like 5 times now. The snap ring that holds the cup in place keeps breaking off....and every time I order a new one from Subaru (only like $1.25 my commercial account cost). What gives? I know I'm putting these snap rings on right.....Why do they keep breaking off..... -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 25, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 25, 2011 Has nothing to do with power. My Outback is doing it ever since I put my short shifter in....and that car has almost no power lol. Its stock (well engine / trans is stock) -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." xXChaosXx
ive come across this problem with short shifters. you need tempered snap rings, you need to grease it, or you need a thicker snap ring and widen the groove it fits into with a small file. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 29, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 29, 2011 I'm still using the stock white cup that the shift lever sits in though. I fail to see how that would make a difference -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 29, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 29, 2011 First two images are from the bottom. The snap ring clips on the very bottom where the white cup protrudes out of the metal casing The last image is the same part from the top view. Without the snap ring, you can jut pull the entire shifter up into the cab. The snap ring prevents the cup from coming out of the metal part surrounding it under the car. My snap rings keep breaking off http://www.flickr.com/photos/we3pollards/3226554864/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/we3pollards/3225699875/ [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/we3pollards/3225699633/]WRX Kartboy short shifter install (1) | Flickr - Photo Sharing!@@AMEPARAM@@http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3083/3225699633_0eb2091fa4_m.jpg@@AMEPARAM@@3225699633@@AMEPARAM@@0eb2091fa4[/ame] -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 29, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 29, 2011 The snap ring isnt really breaking...its more or less popping off...and it fits pretty snug inside its groove.... -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." xXChaosXx
hmm weird, have you tried crimping the snap ring to make it more snug, (crimping it to make its diameter smaller)

I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 29, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 29, 2011 I've ordered all new parts from Subaru. I'll be putting them all on today. It only costed me $15 from the dealer! lol Commercial accounts are awesome -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Reuben
In response to the original post. You gotta buy a new bush, as well as circlip. There is also a round edge on the circlip, and a sharp edge... round edge should be facing up towards the cabin, sharp edge down towards the road. Because yes, this happened to me, and yes, it popped off about 2 or 3 times within the following weeks. I eventually replace the bush, and did the circlip properly, has been fine since. I Donated broknindarkagain Posted August 29, 2011 Author I Donated Share Posted August 29, 2011 Subaru called the white cup a bushing...I replaced that, the two o rings on it, and the snap ring. I didn't know the snap ring had two different edges on it. I'll check it to see how I have it installed tomorrow. Thanks for sharing! That makes perfect sense. Its always something retarded simple that I get hung up on lol -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
