edit: I also called and spoke to the contact person named in the order confirmation I received via email. He was very accommodating when I decided to cancel my original order and add new high beam and fog bulbs.

I have RX330s projectors in my headlight housings. I want to swap out the DRL - lowbeam bulb? with something thats more white, and less of that stock yellow. Likewise, im interested in changing out my fogs.

 

Anyone have suggestions?

RX330 projectors? Meaning they are the projectors designed for HIDs? In that case just go with a good quality HID kit and call it a day. 08s run the DRL off the high beams in low wattage form/dimmer, don't they? If that's not the case and they are still no the low-beams, then disable DRL altogether.

Anyone with experience with Luminics line of replacement bulbs?

 

I currently use the Sylvania Silverstar ultras but looking for something that puts out more light (not necessarily a brighter look-not an HID wannabe)

I should have clarified, they are RX330 HID's retrofitted into the OEM housing. I don't think DRLs run off the high-beams in mine, its a seperate bulb i think.

IMHO any aftermarket HID kit in the 4300-5000 Kelvin range should work just as well. DDM, Apexcone, etc.

He is talking about HIDs, which means just the bulbs and ballasts from what I can tell, not the whole headlight assembly.

This is an issue that any automotive lighting enthusiast will have already considered, and spans not only the headlamps, but also rear-facing lighting features, such as rear fog(s).

There was no address of the JDM retrofit in fishbone's reply, and amp did not ask about the mechanics of the JDM retrofit, only whether if anyone thought that it would be "worth" the additional cost and troubles to effect.

 

To that effect:

 

amp, in all honesty, the RX-retrofit is truly among the superior examples of just what such extensive pursuit is capable of.

 

I would only pursue the JDM retrofit, including leveling, if you are seeking "authenticity" (and that word is in quotes because, simply, there's no true US/NADM "authentic," in terms of OEM-HID ).

 

The RX-retro already makes you hella cool.

 

The JDM-retro would make you uber cool.

 

But from a "performance" standpoint, I think that just about all of us will agree that the RX-retro is already way more than sufficient, considering what an incredible improvement it is over an H7 "plug-and-play" kit (with or without filled "squirrel finders"), which itself, in-turn, already improves on the "light-on-road" of the BL/BP's projectors to a noticeable advantage.

That's the word from a reliable source at candlepowerforums. Toshiba has stopped manufacturing them.

 

Philips has a new 9012 HIR2 bulb available. Philips also has an older design 9011 HIR1 that does not have the infrared reflective coating. No word yet whether Philips will redesign the HIR1 bulb.

Wow, this website does have some really nice aftermarket bulbs. I might just buy me a set someday.

Installed those last weekend. tonight, i finished it with a set of Lamin-X films over all the lighting....Optic Blue over the headlights, Yellow over the foglamps. throws bright, pure white HID matched light for about $100 all said and done.

Why would you do yellow bulbs and film?

well, I guess i never considered that. it looks fine and throws plenty of light all the same...but i suppose one or the other would have been fine

Also. if you read Daniel's info about the selective yellow bulbs, you'd know that you're decreasing your light output with the blue.

After having presented scientifically backed arguments Subiedoobiedoo, you still regard it as theory. Perhaps that should be the signal for everyone else that you are either too stuborn, or have comprehension issues.

I had a HID kit in my car for exactly 2 weeks. I yanked it out because I was actually squinting. Here's another scientific tidbit regarding the efficacy of HIDs vs regular halogens apropos to reaction time

It's been a while since I read the whitepaper, but IIRC the difference was 12-15%

LE, re-read the paper, here is the conclusion

This study was performed to determined if there was any

relative benefit for off-axis vision for HID forward lighting

systems over standard tungsten halogen systems. In as

closely as these systems are representative of typical

headlamp systems, it can be generalized from this study

that HID headlamps do produce greater off-axis visual

performance than traditional halogen systems due to

their increased light output and SPD. The magnitude of

the difference in performance depends on the off-axis

angle and the beam pattern.

 

It is important to note however that the same properties

that allow HID systems to produce greater visual

performance may cause them to produce more glare.

Emphasis mine. Beam pattern. That's where it's at. Halogen headlamp+HID kit = fail
