whitetiger
What is seized? the slide pins or the piston?
Silinc3r
You can lift the caliper up and have someone gently push on teh brake to extend the piston. Then try and push the caliper back in with a clamp. If the outer dust boot on the piston is bad chances are the psiton has rust and the inner, square cut seal is bad as well. They are difficult to rebuild just takes a little time your first try. But yes, if it is just the guide pins. Clean them and relube them Silinc3r's 05 SWP GT/Spec B
mdzowner
thanks for the heads up. turns out it was the piston. i sprayed the crap out of it with brake cleaner for about an hour and then with a board cut to look like a brake pad i clamped it with a c clamp to push it back in. it worked pretty well. it did have a crap load of rust and brake dust deposit all over it. the seals looked to be in decent shape so we will see. Silinc3r
Wait so did you pull the piston out? If the rust is just on the inside of the piston or on the face of the piston that is ok, normal. But if it is the square cut seal, which can not be seen unless the piston is pulled out. If that is bad and the piston is rusted where it sits inside the bore of the caliper it will keep seizing. mdzowner
did not pull the piston out. i depressed the brake to extend both pistons and clamped them back in it seemed to be sliding in and out as normal. perhaps im not doing it correctly to verify? Silinc3r
No, that is a good way to check the operation. While you're at it, I would change the fluid as well. So are they working better now? Silinc3r's 05 SWP GT/Spec B
