fishbone
Front/rear diffs are the same type of fluid on the automatic. 75w90, 1.3quart in the front, 1.5 in the rear. Always undo the fill bolt first on the rear diff. If you drain it and the fill bolt is frozen, you're screwed.
ben64
Strategic good advise ! What is the kind of gearbox tech for a 2005 Legacy 3.0 ? CVT; Torque converter with Planetary gears train or maybe a mecanic robotised but I guess it won't need ATF so it must not be a robotised ? I often read "Prodrive" is it just for the ones with shift palet on wheel or another tech ( what it is ? ) used on all the 5EAT ? Thanks by advance Edited September 4, 2015 by ben64
fishbone
3.0R has the same automatic as the turbo 2.5. It is most definitely NOT a CVT. Also stuffed in the Tribeca and all other 5-speed automatics from that time. Working from memory here, Prodrive was responsible for programming the manual shifting logic into the TCU. I do not understand your statement when you say "I guess it won't need ATF so it must not be a robotised". Yes, it most definitely uses ATF which you should change as needed. ben64
As robotised don't used ATF ( I'm not 100% sure ) I presume the legacy don't use an robotised.
frank_ster
Robotised ??? Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
whitrzac
Robotised ??? I assume DSG/dual clutch. The manuals that are computer controlled.
ben64
that's it : manual with hydrolic/electric command But not : I've foung the service manual so it is a gear box with torque converter but even with the service manual it seems a little complex to understand the tech lol
fishbone
All you need to understand is that it's a traditional, regular, run of the mill, nothing fancy, 5-speed automatic transmission.
west_minist
I love the 4EAT and 5EAT. But never did a lot of work on the 4EAT. The below vids shows how the 5EAT behaves when you make changes to the ECU (not the TCM/TCU). Would it be because of increased line pressure causing it to shift faster? fishbone
Okay, besides the Sport light, is there also a green dot lit up next to the letter D on the dashboard? What position is your lever? Are you SURE it's not in Sports mode? Can you move the lever up and down to manually change gears, or do you first have to slide it over in order to be able to? Regarding fluid, there is no such rule to prevent you from using multi-vehicle transmission fluid. All that matters is that it specifically meets the Subaru ATF-HP spec. ben64
Hi, Is it possible from MANUAL mode to jump to SPORT without using DRIVE just a second and go to SPORT ?
fishbone
Maybe. The shifter is spring-loaded, and I have found that I can slightly push it towards the Drive position and can make it go to Sport mode without the shifter actually jumping into Drive.
