RustyShackleford
I'd like to remove my rear headrests, when I have my rear seats folded down, so there is more storage space behind the front seats. On older models, you just push the adjuster button and yank the things out, but that doesn't seem to be working. From the owner's manual, it appears the front headrests are actually "active" - they actually DO something in a collision. I wonder if the rear ones do too, if maybe they have sensors, and if I'm looking for trouble by trying to pull them. Please help !!
c-lo
you are clearly doing something wrong, mine come out quite easy. as for repercussions for taking them off: there is a safety factor involved in that they will protect against whip lash in a rear end collision. I know someone who was sitting in the front seat during a rear end collision. she had her head rest down too low and suffered severe whip lash when her head went over the top of the head restraint. I'd leave them on and take them off when you need to. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
RustyShackleford
Thanks, I'm taking a long road-trip and seats will be folded down for the duration. I shall re-install them upon return, though it's rare for me to have rear-seat pax. I guess I just need to apply a little more persuasion, but was afraid to before, for fear they weren't supposed to come on out. And thanks for the reminder to check my front ones' adjustment height !
