4th Gen Legacy Aftermarket Grilles

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I really want to replace my factory grille. I'm not too interested in the Home Depot mod. I don't like the look of the really fine mesh.

Where do you get something like this?

I'm gonna stop by today and look at what they have for mesh so I can decide if I want to do the Home Depot version or not

I think that appears to be a jdm oem grille. Note that jdm grilles do *not* fit the USDM bumper. The grilles are different sizes between jdm and usdm. That said, an aftermarket company, RBS, makes a USDM fitment grille out of fiberglass that looks just like that. It will be sans badging, but you can get a badge from Subaru or just go badgeless. If you search on here for RBS grilles, you should be able to find a pic of one installed. Good luck. Enjoy!

These may not be in production any more, so you may have to try to find one used.

i think hd has two different kinds of mesh, the one i have is a lot thinner. that stuff looks like the plastic mesh they have

This is the other style of the Gutter mesh. I personally like it better, hence why I used it

The mesh you posted looks like the heavy gauge stuff they will take you to if you ask for metal mesh

Stay away from the AVO grille. I just got one last month and the fit is terrible! Had to cut and grind the crap out of where it mounts to the bumper just to get it to fit close at all. If I would not have sold the factory grille already the AVO would have went back.

Thanks :)

I would say it is but I took the pic from a for sale post from this site :p

Streetlegal, where'd you get the mesh?

Home Depot  over near the lumber section near the rain gutter accessories. It's called Gutter Guard. The piece was perfect size and I didn't have much waste. Maybe a 4" long piece off the end. Cost me a whole $2 lol

Same here. Ended up getting a refund from the vendor (he took the loss) - totally fit horribly. Wish I'd known this BEFORE buying it.. Can't believe Avo continues to sell a (*&@#$ product like this.

I hear the RRev fits nicely. It comes unpainted/white? I want it black for my OBP wagon..

Ill try to post some pictures of my home depot grille later. The site is not letting me upload photos at the moment.

I used my stock grille and cut it up in my dorm room with a harbor freight dremel that was burnt out by the time I was done with it. then used bondo to fill the gaps and smooth the step over the chrome area. Then ordered primer, OBP paint and clear coat from Automotivetouchup.com and the mesh was from home depot. The one mistake I did was I didn't attach the mesh to the grille until after painting and I scuffed up the paint a little bit which I will be fixing soon. But other then that it is not difficult to complete and looked good in my opinion also with my Blue Hella's behind it

I tried the Home Depot mesh onto a "gutted" OEM grille. 1.5 hours later and a disfigured mess of a sheet of mesh, I realized I have no fab skills, and I have better things to do with my time (like my day job :-), and ordered the Avo, thinking I was done. I may still try to hack up the Avo, since I essentially got it "for free".

Or does someone want a brand new Avo for $99 + shipping?

I also have same grille with mesh as above. it ended up starting to rust and I got an eBay overlay instead. need to glue it down one of these days.

Did you paint yours or leave it as the galvanized metal it comes as?
