HomerJay
Should be a nice little package and should drive pretty well since it's based on the new Ford Focus platform, especially when the AWD is available. Hopefully the power won't be so front wheel biased. Hopefully they won't load it w/ too many "luxery" items either, causing it to weight a ton. Also, the interior looks kinda cheap looking. Tin_pusher
I'd like to know what the 0-60 time will be, I'm guessing around 7.0. I've looked at Volvo's before, and they have really nice interiors.

EJ20H-TT
I'd agree it's a nice looking car Only FWD of course which will not help it handling
gtguy
That is a very nice ride, as is the V-series wagon on that same platform. Volvo's AWD is still suspect, unless they've changed the system, but...nice car. Kevin
PPower
I imagine that they will sell an absolute ton of these cars. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they outsell the Legacy. Great looking inside and out, and it looks like it is going to have a lot of upscale options for those that want it but can't afford the higher models. A friend has a current-gen V40 wagon, and it's a very nice car. The 1.8T motor has more than enough punch, and the car has a nice suspension and very good brakes, as well, not to mention exceptional interior room. I think the new Volvo, particularly with AWD, is going to be a real competitor to the new Legacy, particularly given that Subaru and Volvo tend to play in the same demographic arena, which isn't necessarily true of other marques such as BMW and Acura. SUBE555
I think a $25k base price will be very base? Will it even have its totally front-biased AWD system for that price?
AMT4SWA
This car will be delivered to the U.S. in only FWD during the summer months, and then later in the year the AWD version will arrive (S40 T5 AWD will be at $35,000 with leather/sunroof/sport pkg...very pricy car above the base model). Suspension and steering will be no where near the Legacy GT from what I have read about this car so far, and the interior size is smaller than a IS300, the A4, and even the TSX. GBY
All the inital reports I've read on the new V40 have been US scribes driving a EURO spec. car in Europe. We all hope Volvo won't ruin the car by softening the suspension for perceived US tastes but they probably will  For what it's worth the interior of the old V40 is very similar in size to the WRX Wagon, back seat feels bigger in the WRX because you sit higher and don't have those huge Volvo headrests blocking your view. SUBE555
Jordan, you sure like your evil sign. Just don't put that and your mom in the same sentence. That is truly a LOT of dough. Might as well get the V70R or whatever the high-output models are if its close to that for cost. From what I hear the AWD system is sort of cheedy, more FWD than anything, and the interior is nice, but nothing I'd pay a $10k premium over a GT for. The AWD system on Subarus is darn hard to compete with, particularly VDC if you're all about the safety side of things.
AMT4SWA
Tin-pusher, Go to the www.swedespeed.com site and the S40 forums for all kinds of info. :) BTW, also www.volvodriveevents.com is a site with some up coming ride and drive events for the public with the new S40. :)

Derbagger
According to C&D's preview in this month's issue.... the S40 will be @$24K fo a base 2.4i (about as quick as our 2.5 models) and top out @$30K for a T5 loaded (I assumethis means fully loaded with Nav and other foofoo items.) However, this T5 is not an AWD. It's FWD with the same engine as the S60 detuned a touch (218Hp vs. 240 Hp.) It is unclear if the $30K price is loaded with AWD, or if it's another model above it (as it is in the S60 with a FWD T5 and an AWD R) Although, they mention that the car is very good with its power delivery with only front wheel drive, could be a cheaper option for those with more pleasant weather than the snow-belt states. Personally, the Legacy looks as if it will have as much luxury and niceties, for less $$ (if similarly equiped), so unless you need a Euro badge.... AMT4SWA
That article is for the first new S40 for the U.S. market (the FWD version), and does not reflect the additional pricing and items for the T5 AWD version with a "Sports Pkg" coming later in the year. Jason L
I definitely looks like a neat car. However, the new V50 is what has really caught my eye. I will definitely have to check out the turbo model V50 AWD before finalizing my decision to buy the Legacy. However, with a couple of years to wait who knows what else will come out.
