Wheel and tire question

Recommended Posts

I have rota torque 17x8 with a 35 backspace. Right now I'm at stock ride height until i get my Bilstein setup done. I want to run Hankook 255/50R17's with the back space and size i should be fine but does any one have experience with this size? I asked this question weeks ago on the outback forums no one responded. I have great winter tires I'm just looking for nice meaty summers.

Id imagine with a 255/50/17 itd be close to the upper spring perch because thats a fairly big sidewall. Im running a 255/40/18 which is a sidewall down but i have coilovers so i have no clearances issues with the spring perches. The rears should fit though.

I recently test fit a pair of 245/40r18s on 18x8.5+48 wheels--they were quite close to the spring perch on my tokicos (stock style struts) in the front. I had probably 1cm to spare.

The tires you're talking about are ~3cm larger in overall diameter, so in theory I think the +35 offset should give you enough room, but it will definitely still be close. Obviously you be dealing with fender issues as well but I'm sure you know that.

Mine is still stock height until i choose Bilstien hd's or Bilstien JDM or Koni setup.

I have 5mm Subaru spec spacers just incase. rolling the fender shouldn't be an issue. it's the perch and the plastic fender covers I was worried about.

Ordered them today. 255/50R17 Hankook Ventus ST RH06

Thank you for the info.

Clears very nicely. didn't roll or tuck nothing. I have driven 50+ miles so far nothing. Th drivers side front does have rub on the fender liner because i need an alignment you can tell because i took it apart for an axle and the passenger side has no rub. I yanked on the sway bars with all 250 pounds of me to watch the up and down nothing in the rear connects.

Those bad boys are pushed out quite a lot in the front. Looks perfect out back though.

Of course, it will be a different story once you get Legacy struts in there. Hopefully you still clear the fronts.

The tires and wheels line up great. Next year I'm doing an 18X9 setup with 255/4018I wish the rears where +5mm to match the fronts no i have no intention of tucking
