I finished the shifter install. You have to cut 1.5" off the top of the shifter boot. Sew up the boot ends so they don't come apart. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0809071238.jpg

The inner boot, cut about 1.5" off the top. Pull it over the shifter & zip tie it.

The 6MT shifter assy. boot need two new holes drilled at front. To line up the GT's mounting brace. Everything else lines up.

Here's what the it looks like complete. I use a o-ring [.12" thick & 1.165 inside dia.] to fasten the top of the out shifting boot to the shifter.

the neutral position seems a little high up in the shifter space, do you get close to the trim surround when shifting forwards? Setup looks really nice btw :D

Ya, but still have about 2" between my hand & the dash. In any of the top 3 gears.

There's no where to bolt the exhaust bracket on the 6MT. That was bolted on the back of your 5MT. Needs to mount it to your rear transaxle cross brace. The brace need to be reformed & welded or bolt it if you like on the brace. I choose to weld it. I bolt the bracket to the exhaust after I reformed it. Then tacked it in place. Then remove just the rear part of the tranaxle mounting brace. Weld, clean & repaint.

All I'm waiting on is my drive shaft. It's done, shipped from TX last Friday. Should get it Thurs. or Fri. this week. Her so more pics. of the ” Spiider’s” Auto DCCD controller install, wiring, switches install and I add my own "E" brake kill switch. which will open up the center diff. whenever I use the "E" brake. Just in case I feel like drifting the rear around in the winter.

OEM DCCD control switch used for good looks.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/th_0909072127.jpghttp://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/th_0909072124.jpghttp://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/th_0909072126a.jpg

I put the pics. in order of connection from Power tap to ECU. Autozone as a 10a mini piggy back fuse set up. Just plug it in to the fuse port for the 12v accessory out let. Run wire to the DCCD controller that seat so nicely on top of the Air bag control unit. I used 3M 2 sided tape & a long zip tie. JB weld G sensor in place. Run TPS wire to ECU under passanger side floor panel. Why'll I was there. I hooked up a switch to my test wire connector. So I don't have to dig them out every time I use my APv2.

I found this roller mini switch at Radio Shack. It is prefect for what I needed to do. All it does is cut the ground circuit. When the "E" brake is used.

Ya I got the drive shaft Fri. evening. Sorry for not posting right off. You know LIFE. Some pics. below. I'm off to make a inspection appt. And then put her back on the road 10 days before my appt. My old tags & inspection expiered in late Aug. NY will only give you a temp sticker when you put your vehicle on the road only. It be a week or so before she on the road again.

The small shaft is the OEM. The other is my new shaft. It was a little cheeper then OEM, but it 3x as stong & can be 100% rebuildable for pennys on the dollar.

OEM GT on the left, OEM STi on the right. (for both pics.) The STi mounts 3\16" shorter then the GT's. I used both STi's to keep thing even.

Tansaxle mount .....................Rear to center cross member mount.

Here's a link why I mod. my engine cover.

Before

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0915072050.jpg

Why, Rubbing on intake.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0915072014a.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0915072014.jpg http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0915072013.jpg

There's 3 other spot like this on my intake.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l293/HAMMERDOWNGT/Subaru/0909071629_edited.jpg

Modded, No more rubbing on the intake, the hood scoop now blows air right on to the turbo & the cover don't trap heat under it. Adding to the TMIC heat soak problem in hot slow moving traffic.

I can't wait to hear what this thing handles when done.

Quicker then I thought. I stop by my dealer to pick up kick panel fastener & make an appiontment for inspection. They got me in next Wed. So I put my GT back on the road today. I will be putting the plate on & taken her for a spin after I get some stuff done around the house.

Mike

what?------------Just take the engine cover off.. its totally not necessary. I dont know why Subaru even puts one on, I think there pointless.

^^^

I had the cover off & then I looked & saw a big gap between the bottem of the hood scoop & the TMIC. I didn't like that. So I modded my engine cover. IMO it look better then OEM & no cover at all. But too each thier own.

All I can say is WoW :icon_twis:cool:. It shifts so much better. Now I now what zore turbo lag is. When going threw the gears. The motor never drops out of torque band. In 6th gear at 60 mph you doing about 2500 rpm. 65mph is 2700 rpm. Just step on the gas and go.

Let us know if you go to the dragstrip what your times are.. This would be definitely interesting to see. Have you noticed if it pulls any harder through 1,2, and 3 gears?? I think atleast first and second are shorter then they are on the Legacy. I would think your 1/4 mile times would be a little faster just with that transmission, but I am not sure on the exact gearing.

never understood the point of a 6MT.. too many gears to row through.. my friend has one and I can't stand it. Never feels like it is in the right gear.

I would have to disagree with you on that. I have a 100 round tip to work every day. It now feels like is always is the right gear. And I shift less, over all. 1st is super low, but not as low as reverse. At idle you can just let the clutch out in both gears and it won't stall, doing less then 5 mph. 2nd feels in between the 5MT's 1st & 2nd. 2nd you can go as little as 10 mph. I only use 1st to start out or when I come to a stop. I like to keep my motor spinning around 2500 rpms. So power to move is a stomp away without down shifting. Unlike the 5MT, the 6MT lets me do this. At any speed between 15 mph to 75 mph, I can pick a gear and run that mph between 2300 rpm & 3200 rpm. On avg. a 1000 rpm will increase you mph about 15 mph. So it come down to where the driver like to run the motor rpm's at. If you like to keep the rmp's on the low side, then yes, you won't like the STi 6MT. If you like to keep the rpm's in the torque band, then I would think you'll love it.

Yes, if the drag strips are open at the end of Sept. I uninstailled my APv2, before my swap. Inspection is Wed. the 26. I have around 700 miles on the swap by then. So if I have no problems. I will install my AP & hit the strip the last weekend in Sept. I would just have to deside on 1\8 mile in Tioga county, NY ( closesest, 20 mile away) or go up north a little to 1\4 mile in Cicero, NY ( 80 miles away.) If weather holds out my get both in this yr.

Do you have an update on the total cost? The reason i ask is Vivid racing has a full kit including rear Brembo's for 7. With the gearing change it must really pull.

The total cost came in just under $6k.

She pull really nice on stock tune. :)

I can't wait to see how's she pull when I reinstall my AP :)

I don't now, 7k sounds high, My kit was 4.8k shipped to me (no rear Brembo's). If rear Brembo's brake kits are going for 2.2k. Then that don't sound to bad if milage on the parts is around 30k. If not, I would look around. Just remember there's like 400 dollars in miscellaneous part. If you buy from the dealer. Like new throw out bearing, clutch disk, 4 half shaft seals, tail shaft seals and exhaust gaskets. My 6MT flywheel & pressure plate checked out fine, so I reused them & all my nuts & bolts. If you deside to reuse you nuts & bolts, just wire brush good & clean & reinstall with red & blue thread locker of your choose. I only used red on flywheel and blue everywhere elese.

If you do this swap too, then good luck, & don't rush it.
