Why is my Air Bag light coming on?

Recommended Posts

The one on the dashboard, not the overhead console one. The owners manual is a little vague about this.

Often once you re-start the engine it'll go off, but this morning it came on 10 minutes into my drive and stayed lighted.

You have a fault somewhere in your system. Could be an impact sensor or a seat belt, it's hard saying. You need to get it checked and they should be able to tell you what the problem is. One thing you have to remember about air bags though is if the light is on they are disabled, also it runs in a loop so after you fix the first fault, there is a chance there could be something else down the line that will not show up untill the first fault is fixed.

I found instructions on Youtube on how to test, its pretty buried in there but no equipment is needed. Also found that the most common culprit is poor solder joints in the indicator lights in the overhead console. I'm an analgue designer so this will be an easy fix for me this weekend. I'll report back if it doesn't work. :)
