Head gasket thickness???

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if head gaskets come in different/various thickness?

In my past experience from working on air cooled VW's Type 3 & 4 motors,

I use to measure the deck height for proper clearance between head and piston.

But in all the readings, youtube videos, forum postings, etc..., I've not seen any technical info regarding this.

Is this of any concern or should just go this the default gasket replacement kit?

TIA,

caferio

We've used the Felpro metal head gaskets on NA cars that require a head gasket.

Thanks for the reply, but it didn't answer the question.

I am wondering if like on other boxer-like motors, is there a concern about head gasket thickness since the head need to be surfaces when doing a head gasket replacement.

And if so, does the head gasket come in various thicknesses?

By surfacing the head, it will change the deck clearance, thus my concern.

Looking at the 3rd party vendors like Felpro or OEM, they only list one head gasket kit for my subaru.
