Konis at TireRack..

Recommended Posts

I bought a set first thing this AM. :)

I need new shocks, and I've been debating various setups over the course of the past few months. The pricing on this pretty much sealed the deal.

I know that the fronts are inserts, but I like to wrench. :)

^ Nice! Well, at least the sale part.... not so much the closeout. :(

Got them from TireRack today! :D

Too bad I won't be installing these until this spring or summer!

Just re-hashing prior discussions and confirming my understanding:

Konis are inserts for the front that need some cutting of the stock housing.

Bilsteins are OEM-replacement style struts/shocks.

Konis are adjustable for damping, Bilsteins (at least OEM-style replacements) are not.

Pretty much correct, AFAIK.

There is some kind of issue depending on which car you have and which Bilsteins you get about needing top-hats. I don't know which is which, though (Spec-B, regular, JDM Bilsteins, etc).

^ That's my understanding, too.

The insert steps for the fronts are really quite straightforward - NASIOC has an awesome write-up about it, and there's a BL/BP-specific, although smaller, write-up, here, too.

shox.com has them for 525 with free shipping. I am debating on getting a set since my bilsteins are shot to death.

^ Doeeeeet! That's awesome pricing!
