zactek
Hey all, I've got an 05LGT with a 5EAT. I might be getting my hands on an AcessportV1 and I'm all stock (for now)except for an AVO panel filter and I have 3 questions: 1. How do I find out if mine is a 2005 or a 2005 1/2? It seems Cobb has 2 different maps for the 2005 year.... 2. Is there an OTS map that I can use (safely and reliably) to optimize the stock ECU parameters? 3. I'm planning on an Uppipe and a CBE soon, should I wait (until I put those parts on) or can I use an OTS optimized map for my car as it is now? Thanks a lot, Zack K. FJuan
You should be able to send Cobb your VIN number and they could tell you witch model year you have. Cobb also has a Stage 1 OTS MAPs, along with other venders on this site. Most tuners on here carry OTS MAPs, you'll just need to research and contact a few to decide which one is right for you. Otherwise, the Cobb OTS is a standard Stage 1 MAP. To maximize a Stage 1 MAP, you should replace the OEM UP with a catless one. You can still run a Stage 1 tune with the OEM UP for now, it will just limit the spool time until you swap it out with catless. My wife's balls are delicious. iNVAR
CBE is a waste of money if you're looking for performance, unless you swap to a big turbo.

Thank you for that, I got the acessport yesterday and will try the stage 1 map, I've contacted Cobb with the VIN, but no response yet.... iNVAR, have you ever considered that someone might get a CBE other than performance? LIKE theirs is rusted to hell, cracking at the welds and ready to fall apart? While we're on the subject, are all aftermarket CBE's the same size as stock for the LGT? If that's the case, then there's no perfomance gains other than a few HP because of slightly more freeflowing mufflers. BUT, if the diameter is slightly bigger, Subaru must be some magical motor that defies the laws of physics by not allowing gases to escape thru a bigger diameter pipe and not making ANY HP. Humor me.... Zack K.
iNVAR
Of course I considered it. Have you considered that I offered you this advice and wasn't criticizing you for wanting to buy one, just making sure you understood and didn't expect gains from the CBE? Your questions about exhaust diameter and performance gains are easily answered by a cursory search and a tiny bit of reading, but if you can't be bothered to search, here: All aftermarket catbacks are larger diameter than stock, even the Borla which is the smallest diameter (and quietest) I believe. The largest restriction on the stock exhaust system is the downpipe and cat. Getting an aftermarket catless or high flow catted downpipe frees up that restriction. On a stock turbo system with a stock downpipe and stock tune, your catback won't yield you any gains at all/ On a stock turbo with aftermarket downpipe and custom tune, your catback will still yield you almost no gains at all because the CBE isn't enough of a restriction at that point. Go to a larger turbo, push >300WHP, then you'll start running into a bottleneck.
PhillyWilly
I would recommend avoiding any Cobb OTS maps and get yourself a custom tune. An etune for like $150 is WORTH EVERY PENNY. Search Infamous. I had issues with Cobb maps. I am not the only one. You can search and find plenty of info on that too. Probably better off to wait until parts are installed and get one tune but I think infamous charges less for the second re-tune.
rtbrjason
Just to back that up, I'm running a BNR16g on E85 making around 330whp and 360wtq. I've got a cat-less down pipe, but the rest of the exhaust is 100% OEM. I'd expect about 10-20whp from a cat-back at this point which I don't think would be too noticeable of a power increase and certainly not worth the noise or cost to me. I like to be able to start my car in the morning without all my neighbors cursing me out. I also like to drive it on the highway and be able to hear people talking in the car. I'm just used to the idea that getting a larger exhaust on any turbo car always nets you some extra HP. I guess the stock CBE is efficient enough, but I still gotta get something before mine falls apart. I kinda like waking up the neighbors, lol I usually search, but it takes a while to sift thru all the useless and un-related posts most forum searches offer, and I start to run out of different ways of phrasing what I'm looking for Now I gotta search about problems with Cobb OTS tunes, sheesh.... Thanks guys, I appreciate the replies! Zack K.
Nrw
Unfortunately for you the V1 AP is no longer supported so if you need a custom tune you are kind of back to square one. IIRC they offer a trade in program if you want to keep the AP or you have to find someone to OpenSource it for you.

Cobb hasn't gotten back to me yet about what car I have (05 or 05.5) I spent a few hours digging and researching the stock OTS Cobb maps with no real results. Some people have no issues whatsoever, and some did; glitches/issues I don't want to experiment, this is my DD. I was able to successfully tune my last car from scratch with a standalone MegaSquirt by myself and know that program inside and out but that was before I got married and had a baby. I don't have time right now to re-learn OS or have time to send/log/upload, etc. I won't be at stage 2 for a while either, so just want a little simple bump in HP safely. Just wish there was a solid answer about the stage 1 OTS Cobb maps.... Here's a pic of my last car:) http://imageshack.us/a/img117/7539/1000113fj9.jpg
PhillyWilly
Looks clean. I will tell you my experience with Cobb maps (both stage 1 and 2). I frequently over boosted and got a CEL. I only used them briefly because they weren't even drivable and when I wasn't getting CELs they just didn't feel smooth. Quickly sold the AP and went open source with infamous and was super happy after that. You may or may not have issues with Cobb maps and if you do it won't be the end of the world, but a custom map will be safer and be more fun to drive. Whichever route you choose just make sure you log log log!

I'm gonna try the stage 1 map and see how it feels...I've gotten used to the smoothness and torque of the stock ride, if I feel anything out of the ordinary, I will go back to stock map and work on getting a tune. How hard would it be to switch back to stock map with an AP? I haven't used it yet...also, do I need to connect the two green connectors in the passenger footwell EVERYTIME I'm using the AP for re-flashing? Thanks aa lot, Zack K. McDowell Performance Tunin
yes, on the 05-06 the green connectors need to be attached while flashing. pain in the butt, but could be worse. www.facebook.com/mcdowelltuning [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Click Here for Stage1, Stage2 and Stage3 Tuning and eTuning Info
lingling1337
Do not do a OTS tune, custom tune or bust. IIRC a shop with AccessTuner can do a custom tune for you? But a Tactrix cable and custom tune are cheaper than an AP alone.
JJr
I have a custom Stage1 tune on mine ( did some research prior to the custom vs OTS), only cattless UP too! Love it, enough of a change for me. I like to drive in sport mode too.

Cobb finally got back to me after 6 days, useless......Told me that the AP is year and model specific, DUH!! I wouldn't get it unless I knew it was for mine. Then he went on about how a MAF sensor works and how an aftermarket air filter could affect things. REALLY?? These ECU's are THAT sensitive? So, can anyone tell me how I can find out if my car is an 05 or a 05.5? I gave Cobb my VIN and got nothing.... Also, how hard would it be to switch back to the OEM map if I don't like the stage 1 OTS tune? Do I have to un-marry the AP (I have the V1) OR does it save it along with the maps that are already uploaded onto it? Thanks, Zack K.

There could be something wrong that you don't feel so definitely do some logs and pull learning view. It is easy to switch back to the stock map, although, I have only used APv2.
