drich Posted February 22, 2010 Share Posted February 22, 2010 Hello all, New to the forum and eager to jump and and learn a few things. First off I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5 - Auto - 230,000 miles. Just diagnosed a bad head gasket on the motor. I was going to pull it out and do the work and started looking into other options. Found a 2003 2.5 with 125,000 miles or so on it, including the transmission for a good price. Didn't think it bolted right in but not 100% sure. Trying to find out if this engine would work and if it did and ECU change or other problems I may run into? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Well the engine is essentially the same, I think they changed a few minor things, but it SHOULD be relatively easy to bolt it in and go, however I have never done this, so don't take my word for it. I would expect there to be an ECU problem, as there was probably some kind of emmission thing done to the 03 2.5 that wasn't on the 98. Not sure though, so basically this wasn't much help at all.
