Tehnation
I have an oil leak somewhere near my turbo. I often smell oil burning, and see smoke from the area where turbo is. It looks like oil is leaking onto the block and getting burned off. But I'm losing a lot of oil, i'm constantly topping it off. Any ideas where the leak is ? joeblow
It could be a seal in the turbo going bad. I had the same issue back in August. The turbo won't have any noticeable issues as far as spool and driveability, but oil leaks into the exhaust housing of the turbo and burns off. It's cool; I'm with the band
Tehnation
Could it be repaired or did you need a new turbo?
joeblow
I had to replace the turbo. As far as I know there isn't really a way to diagnose a leaking seal. It could also be burning somewhere else internally and you just have an exhaust leak at the uppipe or downpipe that allows the burnt oil vapor out. zpolsonGT
I've got the same exact smell on the same year and model car. I hope mine isn't the turbo
compsurge
My guess is the drain hose/line needs to be replaced. http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b13/type_12/intake_and_supply_system_turbocharger/turbo_charger/ Check part #12. Part #9 is the infamous banjo bolt (with filter). If it's the oil seal (internal) you may have coolant and oil mixing, mysterious oil and/or coolant loss as a symptom.
