help, engine problems!!!

2008 subaru legacy 2.5i 4 speed auto, car now has 62,000 mile, and now starting to act up after my warranty is up. problem is coming from oil pan area or some where in front of the trans. making weird noise, windin/rattling, when i'm driving at around 2,500rpm but goes away later when the rpm drops, pretty much from gears 1-4. thinking it might be the flexplate in trans(if there is one) or the strainer in the oil pan is clog. what do u guys think?????

Does it make the same noise while at speed in neutral?

Sounds like the noise a lot of people complain about. Kind of sounds like a helicopter, nothing to worry about in my opinion. My car has done it since I drove off the lot with 3 miles, and I'm almost at 69k right now.

the car doesnt make the noise when its at idle, only when i rev it an drive. engine sounds fine, trans is good, its jus the sound thats getting to me. not sure if its normal but it does not sound good at all.

Possibly the heat shields on the exhaust becoming loose?.

^yep that is a good suggestion. My sound was right around 3k, it was a loud rattle, droning noise. I'm still in the process of fixing mine with the dremel, I've removed most of it, but parts of the heat shielding are actually welded onto the header.

Theres a thread here on NASIOC, where someone is complaining about a similiar issue, and fixed it with a hose clamp.

 

I also got a sound rattling recently, but in a lower rev range. Though I have a different header, I still do have heatshields. (i also do hear in neutral though)

Those are the two most random, completely non-related diagnosis guesses I've ever read!

so, i've been on forum looking for an answer an i think i may have found out wats wrong wit my car. thinking the engine has a spun bearing, but not sure yet, gonna take it to my mechanic an see wat he says.
